She Quit Her Family and Found Herself novel Chapter 264

"Got to admit, Mrs. Owen's niece has incredible handwriting," Mrs. Gower whispered, tugging the sleeve of the woman next to her.

"Incredible is an understatement. You can tell she trained under a master," the other woman replied.

"Exactly. Her strokes are steady and light, but the characters are clean and powerful, like they're growing straight out of the paper. You don't get that kind of depth without at least ten years of relentless practice," added another core member of the ladies' social club, who happened to be a renowned calligrapher herself.

Earning such high praise from an expert was all the proof anyone needed of just how exceptional Hulda's skills were.

A compliment of that magnitude completely overshadowed the polite applause given to a mediocre, mistake-ridden piano performance.

Listening to the women gossip, Valery's hands slowly balled into tight fists.

"Hahaha, wonderful!" Master Marr's slightly manic laughter instantly shattered the reverent silence.

He snatched up the paper bearing Hulda's name and number, folding it up carefully like a priceless treasure, and stuffed it into his jacket pocket.

Wade, who had still been analyzing the brushstrokes, snapped out of his daze when the paper was whisked away. He couldn't help but look at Hulda, his expression growing painfully complicated.

"You... you understand Go, and your handwriting is this good?" Wade stared intensely at her. "Why did you never show any of this before?"

If only he had known...

Hearing Wade ask almost the exact same question Herbert had once asked, Hulda could only think about how much the two men truly were father and son. They always looked for the fault in others first, forever positioning themselves as the self-righteous authority figures.

Not ten minutes ago, he had harshly demanded she leave.

Now, he had the audacity to interrogate her.

It wasn't that she had deliberately hidden anything; it was that the Jewell family had never once given her the chance to fit in.

Just like how Herbert never discussed work with her, forbade her from asking about it, and flat-out banned her from showing up at H&J Technologies.
