Shera had originally assumed Felipa would be an unapproachable figure, harboring the typical stereotypes one might have about renowned masters in their field.
But after getting to know her, she realized Felipa was incredibly outgoing and loved a lively atmosphere.
There was absolutely no generational gap between them.
After work, Shera stopped by a high-end grocer to pick up a bouquet of flowers and a few tasteful hostess gifts.
However, when she double-checked the address Felipa had sent, her heart skipped a beat.
Rosewood Gardens—the very same upscale neighborhood where Caden Hayes lived.
If it weren't for the fact that the house number was completely different and located a fair distance away, she might have let her paranoia get the better of her.
But she had already accepted the invitation; canceling now would be terribly rude.
Besides, Rosewood Gardens was huge. Surely she couldn't be unlucky enough to actually run into Caden.
She tried to comfort herself with that logic.
She knew this area like the back of her hand, completely rendering her GPS useless.
The drive was smooth, and she pulled up to Rosewood Gardens right at six-thirty.
Stepping out and grabbing her gifts from the trunk, she noticed another car pulling into the driveway right beside hers.
As the car parked and a familiar figure stepped out, a smile touched her lips.
"Dr. Pembroke."
Pearce was clearly surprised to see her there. He blinked, visibly taken aback.
"Ms. Jewell? What brings you here?"
Shera held up the bags in her hands. "Felipa invited me over for dinner."
"Ah, that makes sense. Here, let me give you a hand."
Pearce took the heavy bags from her, leaving her to carry just the bouquet of flowers.
They walked side-by-side toward the villa.
"I don't actually come back here very often," Pearce admitted. "It's quite a drive from the hospital. I only just got the call after my shift ended."
Shera nodded in understanding.
"The stitching is so fine. It's double-sided embroidery, isn't it?"
"You'll learn how to do it in no time."
Shera glanced up at him, a warm smile playing on her lips. "You think so? I'll hold you to that, Dr. Pembroke."
Calvin Pembroke arrived a little late, explaining that he had been helping an elderly neighbor fix something, which held him up.
The atmosphere at the dinner table was warm and effortless, completely devoid of the awkwardness Shera had feared.
"I hear your competition is entering the finals the day after tomorrow?"
Shera nodded. "Yes, the format is slightly different this year. They've added an online public voting component to make the judging process more objective."
Felipa nodded in approval. "This level of fairness and transparency is a direct result of your hard work."
She took the opportunity to share some invaluable advice from past competitions and potential pitfalls Shera might face. Shera soaked it all in, nodding eagerly.
She didn't want to miss a single drop of wisdom from the master.
"By the way, Shera, are you currently single?"
