She Turned Her Grief Into Wings novel Chapter 142

In the corner, the man sat with his brows locked together, leaning expressionlessly into the sofa until he practically melted into the dark upholstery.

Seeing that he was still sitting there without uttering a single word, Solomon let out a frustrated sigh and hit pause on the audio.

"Bro, why do you look like you're heading to a funeral every time we come out?"

The sofa dipped as Solomon plopped down beside Caden.

He downed a gulp of his drink, then held two fingers right in front of Caden's face.

"Eighth time."

His face was completely numb with exhaustion. "Man, it's only been fifteen days into the month, and you've dragged me out here eight times."

Caden glanced at the fingers in front of him, then coolly looked away.

Solomon leaned in and threw an arm over his shoulder.

"I know you're going through a heartbreak, and I know you need company."

"But... you can't just drag me out here and refuse to speak every single time."

From the moment they met up to the moment they got into the car, there was zero communication.

He wouldn't answer questions, and he wouldn't drink when offered.

He was like a block of wood.

Every time they hung out, Solomon felt like he had brought his brooding, non-verbal friend out for stress testing.

He pointed dramatically at his own chest, looking pained. "I am a living, breathing organism. I need some interaction."

"Just because your wife doesn't want you doesn't mean you get to give me the silent treatment."

Solomon reached over and grabbed Caden's face, forcing him to look at him. "If you have a problem, ask. If you're confused, I'll help you figure it out. But can we please not sit here in total silence?"

He gritted his teeth. "You're making me look like an idiot."

Caden let out a heavy breath, peeled Solomon's hands off his face, grabbed the glass of liquor on the table, and downed it in one go.

The glass hit the table with a sharp clink.
