On the hospital bed, Shera was staring down at the tray that had fallen to the floor.
She looked up, completely startled to find Caden standing in the doorway with an expression of sheer panic.
"Caden, why are you here?"
Shera looked bewildered—especially given his bizarre appearance.
He was wearing pajamas, shuffling in slippers, with a thick bandage wrapped around his head.
*What?*
The man in the doorway ignored her question, striding over and grabbing her hands to inspect them.
"What happened? Is everything okay?"
Confused, Shera pulled her hands away and pointed at the plastic tray on the floor.
"I'm fine. I just tried to grab my charger and accidentally knocked it over."
Caden checked her over from head to toe, letting out a silent sigh of relief only when he confirmed she was unhurt.
He bent down, picked up the fallen items, and carefully placed them on the table beside her.
She plugged in her phone, raised an eyebrow at his figure, and pointed at his head.
"What happened to you?"
Caden caught on and replied with forced casualness, "A minor scratch. Nothing to worry about."
Shera's lips twitched before she simply nodded.
"Okay."
She thought to herself, *Who said I was worried?*
She suddenly recalled Solomon mentioning his acute stomach bleed earlier, guessing he must have been admitted here.
Caden sat down on the sofa opposite her, quietly watching her without saying a word.
The atmosphere in the room froze, settling into a bizarre, suffocating awkwardness.
But Shera had absolutely no intention of initiating a conversation.
She reached over for an apple and was just about to take a bite when a hand intercepted her.
The man lowered his eyes, picked up a paring knife from the fruit basket, and began peeling the apple with practiced precision.
His voice was deep, betraying no emotion. "The skin is tough. It's better to peel it off."
Shera leaned back against the bed, quietly watching his hands move.
Peeling, slicing, and neatly arranging the pieces on a plate.
