Her immediate reaction was that Quinn had staged the whole thing.
"Making her driver take a dangerous shortcut to play the victim? Unbelievable."
Miles recalled how her pitiful act had successfully tugged at his heartstrings just yesterday.
Determined not to fall for it again, he slowly pulled his hand away from the door handle.
Seeing his silence and total lack of concern, Jade relaxed.
The tiny seed of doubt in her heart completely evaporated, replaced by a gleam of satisfaction.
She had been overthinking things.
Quinn was practically a nobody. There was no way a man like Miles could ever genuinely care for her.
Realizing calling another rideshare would take too long, Quinn decided her best bet was to drag herself to the nearest subway station.
If she hustled, she might just be a little late, but she could still make her mother's appointment.
However, her body was already running on empty. Between her lingering illness and the trauma of the crash, she swayed dangerously on the edge of the sidewalk.
"Ma'am, are you sure you're alright? You can barely stand."
"I... I'm fine..."
The moment the words left her mouth, her vision pitched black, and she collapsed violently forward.
"Ma'am!"
Tristan, whose eyes had been glued to the rearview mirror, instantly hit the brakes. "Boss, Ms. Avery... she just passed out."
"Miles, she's definitely faking it, right?"
Macy crossed her arms in disgust. "She's just playing the sympathy card. Do not go out there."
Miles pinched the bridge of his nose. Unable to just leave her bleeding on the asphalt, he reached for the door again.
Just as he pushed it open, he caught a glimpse in the mirror: the rideshare driver had frantically flagged down a passing car and was currently hauling Quinn's limp body into the backseat.
His hand froze on the handle. He didn't push the door any further.
Tristan saw it too. "That driver is a good guy. He got her into a car, probably headed straight for the ER. Should we tail them, Boss?"
