Hilda went to see her mother.
By the time she returned to the villa, the sky was completely dark.
The car parked on the apron in front of the villa. Through the windshield, she could see the warm, orange light in the entryway. Hilda watched quietly for a moment, unbuckled her seatbelt, and got out of the car.
As she closed the door, she glanced at the black Bentley nearby.
Luther was already back.
Hilda slowly closed the car door, walking up the steps in the night. Reaching the entryway, she heard little Annie's giggling. Going inside, she saw Luther holding her. The little girl sat on her dad's arm, looking soft and overjoyed. No matter how cold a woman was, seeing this scene would soften her heart.
Hilda set down her handbag and watched quietly for a while.
Luther looked over in her direction.
His gaze was deep.
She couldn't read his intentions.
After a long moment, when Hilda walked over, Luther asked softly, "Did you eat out?"
Hilda shook her head, "Not yet."
Luther had already eaten with little Annie. He lifted his chin, signaling the maid to bring the food over. While waiting for the meal, Hilda took the little girl and kissed her. Perhaps because they were close, Luther smelled the Chanel No. 5 perfume on her—Jolie's usual scent.
Luther lowered his voice: "Did you meet with Jolie?"
Hilda frowned at first.
Then her nose twitched, and she figured it out.
She didn't deny it. After putting little Annie down to go play, she walked to the dining table to eat, stating casually in between bites: "Yes, she asked me out for coffee. We talked about a few things. She said you would still choose her in the end... Luther, is she right?"
Luther's brows furrowed tightly—
"How could that be?"
"She's being transferred to Europe right away."
...
Hilda's smile grew even fainter: "Luther, life is quite long, actually. A person's promises will change, and you are very greedy."
She didn't demand he do anything.
Luther stared at her.
Today Hilda wore a very feminine blouse and knee-length skirt. Now, late at night, her low bun was undone, black hair cascading down, making her look gentle and soft. It gave a man an intense urge to embrace her, and Luther naturally did just that. They were husband and wife; he loved Hilda's body.
Her soft waist was caught by the man.
He hugged her from behind, resting his chin on her delicate shoulder, his voice dropping extremely low: "Are you angry? Haven't I made my choice? To live with you and little Annie. In the future, we'll have more children. Once you have a second child, you won't overthink things, and you'll feel secure."
Luther disliked coaxing women.
Even with Jolie, he rarely coaxed her.
But when a man was driven by lust, perhaps this function was automatically activated. He started sweet-talking effortlessly, saying romantic things he normally never would. Even though Hilda was very tired and wanted to refuse, the man wanted her so badly that he quickly pinned her onto the sofa, locking her wrists with one hand, as if he couldn't hear her rejection, instantly making her go soft.
Later on, Hilda was barely conscious.
The man's guarantees seemed to echo in her ears.
Brushing past lightly.
Like a gust of night wind outside the window.
