Half an hour later.

Inside a cheap, rundown motel room.

A violent, intense session ensued.

After two or three rounds, the man roughly tossed the woman back onto the bed.

He pulled on his pants and sat on the sofa in the corner, lighting a cigarette. The fingers holding the smoke were long and elegant. A mocking sneer curled on his lips. "Back then, I didn't even lay a finger on you, yet you sent me to prison. Now that you're about to become a wealthy socialite, you're happily spread beneath me. You really are cheap."

Jolie lay face down on the bed. Incredibly, she had actually just experienced true pleasure.

Just as she was about to turn over, the man stepped forward and grabbed her hair—

"If you don't want Luther to find out your dirty little secrets, you'd better be at my beck and call."

A flash drive was thrown directly at her face.

Damien scoffed softly. "It's got some spectacular footage of you on it. I bet that man of yours has never seen you act like this."

Jolie's fingers trembled violently as she picked up the drive. Clutching her clothes to her chest, her entire body shook.

It was past midnight by the time she made it home. She didn't dare turn on the lights, shrinking into a dark corner.

Damien had absolute leverage over her.

Jolie understood human greed far too well. She knew Damien wouldn't just want her body; he undoubtedly wanted something else. With shaking hands, she dialed his number. When the call connected, her voice was tight. "Damien, what exactly are you trying to do? Whatever money you want, I can give it to you."

Damien toyed with his lighter. He sounded utterly heartless and cruel.

He let out a light chuckle. "I want to be Mrs. Sanford's lover."

Jolie immediately hung up. Damien was here to destroy her.

She felt incredibly insecure. She knew Luther's divorce was supposed to be kept completely under wraps to protect that old woman's health in the Sanford family.

But she couldn't wait any longer. She needed to marry into the Sanford family immediately. She had to use their immense power to wipe Damien off the map.

Jolie opened the photo gallery on her phone and pulled up an image. It was a picture of the divorce agreement she had secretly taken earlier that day.

The blue light of the screen illuminated her face, making her look completely unhinged.

After a long hesitation, she made a call. The person on the other end was a tabloid reporter.

Luther frowned. "Dad, Jolie isn't the awful person you think she is. She saved my life back then."

Nathan let out a bitter laugh—

"The ocean, the little mermaid, the prince. Do you think this is a fairy tale? Why didn't she turn into sea foam when you got married?"

Luther's expression was unreadable.

Nathan left him with a final warning before walking out. "Your mother and I absolutely refuse to accept this divorce."

The night grew deeper.

Luther stood quietly by the window. Lori had stayed behind, standing quietly behind him.

The man smoked almost half a pack of cigarettes before letting out a dry cough. With a hint of lingering confusion, he asked, "Lori, do you also think I shouldn't divorce Hilda?"

The secretary let out a soft sigh.

He was already calling her by her first name again. How could he possibly claim he wasn't regretting it?
