After Matilda's funeral, Hilda, Annie, and Gardenia returned to Havenworth City.
She never contacted him again.
Luther quietly visited Havenworth City a few times in between.
But he never showed his face.
He watched from afar as Hilda took her morning walks, picked Annie up from school in the evenings, and sat reading in the gazebo in the afternoons. Her life was incredibly peaceful. Harrell would drop by occasionally, but he'd usually leave after half an hour.
Luther knew then, she really wasn't with Harrell.
…
In September.
In the CEO's office at Aegis Group in Alpha City.
Jolie pushed the door open and walked in.
As soon as she entered, she saw Luther staring blankly out the window.
She gritted her teeth in pure hatred.
Ever since he found out Hilda was pregnant, Luther had been completely cold to her.
They had only slept together a few times recently, and every time, she had been the one to initiate it. And it was always just once. Afterward, he would pull on his pants and leave, treating her like she was utterly worthless. Knowing Hilda was carrying his child, she didn't dare throw a tantrum.
She walked up and hugged him from behind.
"Luther, what are you thinking about?"
"Are you worried about Hilda and the kids?"
"If you can't stop worrying, why don't we go to Havenworth City together to visit them... okay?"
He stiffened. "Jolie."
Jolie's voice was soft and gentle. "I know you can't let them go. It's too hard for Hilda to raise two kids on her own. Why don't we bring the baby here to raise after she gives birth? It would ease her burden. Luther, I know this sounds selfish, but I can't have children anymore. I don't want to adopt a stranger's baby. This child is your flesh and blood, and Hilda is my family. I would love the baby as my own, teach them everything I know, and give them all my motherly love."
Luther couldn't help but be moved.
But he was still a little hesitant.
His parents still hadn't accepted Jolie.
They probably wouldn't even attend the wedding.
Seeing his hesitation, she sighed softly. "I know I'm not a whole woman anymore. Luther, if you want to find a healthy wife, I wouldn't blame you. Who wouldn't want a perfect wife? I know I'm not good enough for you."
Her words cemented his resolve.
Jolie had saved his life once.
And last time, because of a dispute with Hilda, she had lost her uterus.
He had promised to take care of her for the rest of his life.
She didn't dare spend money on gigolos.
Damien Croix was the safest bet.
When night fell, in a seedy motel room, Jolie gave herself over to her desires. She had always been a wild woman who liked to take charge. Luther was far more conservative in that regard—even though he was incredible, he could never fully satisfy her wild nature.
She and Damien were perfectly in sync.
Damien knew how to service high-society women.
He knew exactly what women liked.
In the heat of the moment, Jolie had no idea that a hidden camera was recording her every move, capturing her unrestrained expressions and entirely tearing away her innocent facade. Completely oblivious, she rested affectionately against Damien's chest after they finished, trailing a finger over his heart. "I'll rent you a nice apartment and give you fifty grand a month. Stop servicing other women."
Damien chuckled softly.
He leaned back against the headboard and smoked.
She willingly continued to please him.
And it was all caught on tape.
He looked down and gently patted the back of her head. "Fifty grand isn't enough to keep me."
He didn't want money at all.
*He wanted to watch her burn.*
