September.

Havenworth City was still stiflingly hot.

In the afternoons, Hilda would browse a nearby bookstore. They carried a lot of rare, antique books, a subject she found fascinating.

Today was like any other day.

She carefully selected a few books she liked.

And went to check out.

Unexpectedly, she bumped into a tall figure.

The familiar scent of cedar instantly told her who it was.

It was Luther.

Hilda looked up and saw Luther and Jolie.

Standing side by side like the perfect couple.

Hilda smiled.

*Well, yes, they were a couple.*

Luther's gaze dropped to her stomach.

She was wearing a floral maxi dress, nearly eight months pregnant, her belly very prominent.

Hilda had always been extraordinarily beautiful.

Even just weeks away from giving birth, she remained slender and stunning, aside from her large belly.

After a moment of silence, Luther pointed toward the lounge area. "Let's sit over there. I have something to discuss with you."

Hilda studied his face.

Luther looked at Jolie and said softly, "Go take a look around."

Jolie was in a crisp white suit, looking highly educated and sophisticated.

She nodded, acting like the perfectly understanding partner. "Alright, you chat with Hilda."

Then she looked at Hilda and smiled sweetly. "Luther and I are getting married soon."

Luther frowned slightly.

But Hilda just looked down and chuckled.

She thought she already knew exactly why Luther and Jolie were here.

…

A few minutes later, she and Luther sat on opposite sides of a small table.

Luther was wearing an immaculate white shirt.

Hilda recognized it as an AUS designer shirt.

Yet he didn't seem to react.

Hilda laughed coldly. "Luther, how do you have the nerve to ask for this child? You were the one who cheated during our marriage. You were the one who wanted the divorce. And now you want to steal my baby. This child hasn't even been born yet. You couldn't take them even if you took me to court. Plus, we're divorced. You have zero legal standing to fight for custody."

He looked up at her quietly.

After a moment, his voice dropped even softer. "Then what about Annie? We never officially designated custody when we signed the divorce papers. I'm considering filing for custody now. Given my resources, I'm confident a judge would award Annie to me. Unless you form a new family... But Hilda, in your current condition, who would dare marry you? With you this far along, it wouldn't exactly be easy to find someone, would it?"

Hilda trembled with sheer fury.

She slapped him fiercely across the face.

Luther just sat there, taking it calmly.

"I know you're angry."

"But Hilda, I trust you'll make the right choice."

"Annie has lived with you for a long time; it's best she stays with you. And as for a newborn living with Jolie and me... we will do absolutely everything to love and raise them. You have nothing to worry about."

Hilda closed her eyes and whispered a few words.

"Luther, I gave you too much credit. You're an absolute monster."

Even as Luther left, he tossed out one last sentence.

"I believe you'll agree."
