Luther froze dead in his tracks.
He stared at Damien for a long moment.
Before his gaze snapped back to Jolie's face. "Is it true? Is what he's saying true?"
Jolie was completely in a panic.
She never imagined Damien would know about this.
This was her ultimate lifeline.
Naturally, the woman denied it to the death. "Of course not! Luther, did you forget? When you woke up, I was the one by your side taking care of you! I was the one who saved you all along! I might have my flaws, but we have a history together. Luther, I haven't lied to you. Don't believe this scam artist! He seduced me, he lured me into this tramp-like behavior!"
She sobbed hysterically. "He's just a manipulative con artist!"
Luther let out a cold sneer. "Is that so?"
Jolie was stunned. "Luther, you don't believe me?"
Luther's expression was deathly calm. "It's very easy to make me believe you. The pool is right there. Jump in, and I'll believe you can swim. If you don't dare, it proves you've been lying this entire time."
The woman was completely paralyzed.
She stared at Luther in sheer terror.
The man's face held not a single trace of the love he once had.
Only ruthless finality.
The guests around them were already whispering—
[Exactly. If she doesn't dare jump, it means she can't swim. That man is telling the truth. She's been lying all along. She tricked Luther and stole her own sister's credit. How vicious. Poor Hilda, forced into a divorce, driven far away... I heard she was left with absolutely nothing, right?]
[She's actually doing fine now.]
[Haven't you heard? She quietly married Harrell Judson. She's about to pop out a big, healthy baby any day now.]
Those words pierced Luther like a thousand needles.
So everyone already knew Hilda was remarried.
That she had married Harrell.
On the stage, Jolie was practically hyperventilating.
Mina was much better at keeping her composure. She shot frantic glares at her daughter, signaling her to jump. So what if she couldn't swim? She'd figure it out once she was in the water! Fortune favors the bold! If she didn't jump, how would Luther ever believe her?
Jolie clutched the heavy fabric of her dress, unable to force herself to do it.
She desperately wanted to prove herself.
But her primal fear of the water kept her frozen in place.
She still didn't dare jump.
Damien, flashing his crazed, intoxicating smile, suddenly swept Jolie up into his arms and hurled her straight into the pool.
The woman hit the water with a massive splash.
In sheer panic, she desperately tried to paddle, desperately trying to prove she could swim. But the overwhelming terror of drowning took over. She thrashed wildly in the water, splashing violently and screaming for help.
Everyone on the deck watched in absolute shock.
The truth was finally out.
Jolie never saved Luther back then.
The one who saved Luther was Hilda.
Jolie had despicably stolen Hilda's identity.
All eyes turned to Luther, eager to see his reaction. Luther calmly crouched by the edge of the pool, casually running his fingers through the water, and told the staff, "Fish her out."
