Lori called Luther from the hospital. The situation was incredibly messy.

Truthfully, even Lori didn't know exactly what Summer meant to the boss.

If you called her a mistress... Luther had never once spent the night there. He was strictly well-behaved, never even touching the girl. She seemed to function as nothing more than a living display piece. But to say they had no relationship at all? He was paying for a luxury apartment and dropping two hundred grand on her every single month.

Late at night.

Luther sat up in bed, frowning heavily. "Her face was slashed?"

Lori nodded on the other end of the line. "Yes! Standard plastic surgery probably won't cut it."

Luther drove to the hospital in the dead of night.

The moment he walked into the ER, he saw Lori keeping Summer company.

As soon as the girl saw him, she clutched her face, her eyes brimming with tears. She was incredibly street-smart; she didn't name her attacker, simply weeping silently to maximize the man's sympathy.

And Luther did feel a pang of pity.

His top-tier collectible had been ruined.

What if he couldn't look at it anymore?

To save that face, Luther called Zane Ziegler.

Zane instantly recognized Summer.

—The girl Yorick Lynn had procured for Luther.

Zane didn't ask for the gruesome details. He just examined the wounds and sighed. "She's probably going to need reconstructive work abroad. It's salvageable. A couple of procedures and she'll be back to normal, but it won't be cheap. Probably around six hundred grand. I'll get you the contact for a top specialist."

Summer's heart had been pounding out of her chest.

Now, finally relaxing, she looked up at Luther.

She wrapped her arms around the man's arm, gently swaying it.

Luther offered a faint smile. "Only the best doctor, of course."

Summer knew then that he wasn't tired of her yet.

Having caught a glimpse of this elite world, she could never go back to her mediocre life. So what if she was a replacement? Locking down Luther's heart was the only thing that mattered.

The man clearly had a soft spot for obedient women.

And Luther was undeniably gentle with her.

Even in the middle of the night, he didn't show a hint of impatience.

Once she was bandaged up.

Luther led Summer toward the exit.

Lori trailed discreetly behind them.

But the universe loves a cruel coincidence.

As they rounded the corner, Summer was still softly whining and clinging to him, and Luther was listening with a faint smile on his lips.
