By the time Harrell finished his business.

And returned to the villa.

It was already dusk.

The car slowly pulled into the driveway as the evening shadows deepened. A woman was standing by the steps, waiting for him.

She was still wearing the floral dress from earlier, but she had swapped her blazer for a beige shawl. Her dark hair cascaded over her shoulders, and she looked at him with an incredibly soft expression. Harrell stepped out of the car, quickened his pace, and took his wife's hands with a warm smile. "Why are you waiting out here? It's chilly, and you need to take care of yourself so soon after the baby."

Hilda looped her arm through his.

Together, they walked into the foyer.

As Harrell looked down to change his shoes, Hilda leaned against him and asked softly, "How did it go?"

Harrell looked at her under the warm entryway light, unable to resist gently pinching her cheek. "All handled."

Having just gotten home, he wanted to head upstairs to check on their youngest son.

The couple walked up the stairs together.

A maid approached and asked, "Sir, Ma'am, should we serve dinner now?"

Before Hilda could speak, Harrell squeezed her hand and smiled warmly at the maid. "Hold dinner for an hour. My wife and I are going to check on Landon."

The maid nodded and retreated.

Hilda followed him up the steps.

She whispered, "Since when does checking on the baby take an hour?"

Harrell stopped on the second-floor landing. He wrapped an arm around his wife's slender waist, gently tucked a stray lock of dark hair behind her ear, and leaned down to kiss her. He didn't care if the maids saw them. In fact, he wanted them to see. He wanted everyone to know how deeply in love they were.

Hilda's cheeks flushed hot.

After stealing a few more kisses, Harrell murmured, "Are you still sore?"

Hilda wasn't naive.

She didn't answer, simply pulling him by the hand toward their bedroom.

It was true that he wanted to see little Landon. He picked the baby up, kissed him, and asked the maternity nurse a few detailed questions. He had kept his promise to treat Hilda like a queen, and he loved her children as his own. To him, little Landon was no different from his own flesh and blood. Back in Havenworth City, everyone simply assumed the boy was his biological son.

Landon drank his milk and fell asleep.

Once the couple returned to their own room.

Harrell pinned his wife against the sofa in the sitting area. He caressed her waist, his voice dropping to a husky, hungry register. "That boy has an impressive appetite. It looks like plenty to me, so why is it never enough?"

His hands were already moving as he spoke.

Hilda looped her arms around his neck and whispered, "To the bed."

Harrell looked into her eyes. His dark gaze was heavy with desire, radiating an undeniable, dominant masculine energy.

He was usually so gentle.

But behind closed doors, he was incredibly dominant.

He was tender, yes, but it was the kind of relentless tenderness that wouldn't stop, no matter how much she begged.

Harrell took her suggestion.

He carried her to the plush bed.

But the process was intensely intimate.

He was two years older than her, and he had been in a few relationships before. Hilda guessed those brief flings had taught him a lot, because he knew exactly what he was doing. Yet, he was fiercely loyal to her. Ever since they got married, even throughout her pregnancy, he had given her nothing but absolute security. There had never been another woman in the picture.

She felt a flutter of shyness, clinging tightly to his neck.

Harrell was still impeccably dressed in his suit.

The contrast only made the moment more intoxicating.
