Even before Luther Sanford found out.

The fire at the sanatorium had already hit the news and started trending online.

The director couldn't reach Luther, so she found Lori Lynn's number in the emergency contacts.

Lori was out with friends.

Seeing the unknown number, she answered it anyway.

The director's terrified, remorseful voice came through the phone: "Lori, can you reach Mr. Sanford? We're on fire here. It's massive. No matter what we try, we can't get to the second floor to save Mrs. Sanford. I think she's already... gone. Mr. Sanford has to give us an order no matter what. Do we suppress the news, or will he come to collect... her body himself?"

Tears instantly slipped from Lori's eyes.

Her friends asked her in shock what was wrong.

Within seconds, Lori collected herself.

She barked an order at the director: "Do not give up! I'm calling in the best firefighting teams to assist. Do not stop trying before Mr. Sanford gets there, do you hear me? Forget the press; I'll take full responsibility for the fallout. Right now, your only priority is saving her, understand?"

She hung up and immediately used her authority to dispatch a professional fire and rescue unit.

Then she contacted Nathan and Eleanor.

She knew Luther's phone was off.

She had already tried reaching him half an hour ago for work.

Once she arranged everything.

She contacted Luther's driver.

At first, the driver stammered, reluctant to spill, so Lori cut straight to the point: "Mrs. Sanford might not be alive anymore."

Stunned, the driver immediately caved: "Mr. Sanford is at Ms. Shaw's place."

Lori froze.

When she stood up, the overwhelming wave of grief made her stumble. Her friends rushed to support her, but she gently shook them off and whispered, "I'm fine. I need to go handle something. Let's get together another time."

Her words were heavy with sorrow.

Thick with a suppressed sob.
