Once they got outside.
The evening light was already fading.
The sky was stunning, painted with drifting crimson clouds.
By the car, Joyce forcefully yanked her arm free from his grasp. She looked up at him, speaking softly but firmly. "Mr. Sanford, I already told you. We're not a match. I am not going to be with you, and I am definitely not going to dinner with you. Please do not show up like this again."
Luther stared back at her, a hint of dark intensity flashing in his eyes.
"Did I ruin things for you?"
"Are you seriously telling me you wanted to be with a guy like that?"
Joyce looked away. "That's none of your business."
His gaze softened just a fraction.
He took two steps toward her, looking down into her eyes as he asked quietly, "You dressed up so beautifully just to get coffee with him? If you actually liked him, were you planning to squeeze into some tiny apartment with him for the rest of your life? Keep popping out kids until you gave him a son?"
Joyce snapped, "I said, it's none of your business."
The very next second, she found herself pinned against the car.
Luther was wearing a sleek, mid-length black trench coat.
She was in a soft pink knit dress.
One sharp and imposing, the other delicate and soft.
He pressed his body tightly against hers. Before she could even react, he gripped her chin and brought his mouth down in a deep, devastating kiss. The sheer heat and force of it felt all-consuming, instantly making her knees weak. She tried to struggle, turning her head side to side, but he easily managed to hold her in place.
Gradually, the purely dominant kiss began to shift.
Her fingers curled tightly into his collar.
The high-quality fabric wrinkled under her desperate grip.
A soft, breathy sound escaped her throat.
Luther pulled back just a fraction, the straight bridge of his nose brushing against hers. His voice was low, incredibly raspy, and practically dripping with raw desire. "See? You like it too. You like the way I kiss you, you like my body... If we were in bed right now, you wouldn't be able to deny it. Pity we aren't in the right place."
She raised her hand, ready to slap him across the face.
He didn't flinch or pull away.
He just let her do it.
