He genuinely made her drive.
Joyce nervously slid into the driver's seat.
He got into the passenger seat, leaning back against the leather with a look of absolute satisfaction.
Lori couldn't help but think her boss had a severely twisted sense of humor.
The car started.
Inside, the cabin was dark and quiet. Luther leaned back without saying a word, just quietly watching her. Her appearance had changed a tiny bit, but overall, she looked exactly the same. Even her driving habits hadn't changed; when she gripped the steering wheel, the pinky finger on her right hand would always lift just a fraction.
The luxury car navigated the streets and alleys of Alpha City.
They were heading toward the Silverlake Villa.
Joyce was actually incredibly nervous.
She felt like something was off tonight.
Today was supposed to be her blind date, but Luther had hijacked it. Then he dragged her to his late wife's mother's house for dinner, where the woman treated her with such unbelievable tenderness and even gave her an incredibly expensive bracelet. Oh right, she almost forgot—she needed to give it back to him as soon as they stopped.
Her mind was racing with all sorts of thoughts.
Suddenly, his deep voice broke the silence. "Pull over up ahead."
Huh?
She slammed on the brakes, nearly sending the car straight into a tree.
He shot her a look as he unbuckled his seatbelt.
But he didn't say anything.
She gave a little pout.
It was an entirely unconscious, almost coquettish gesture.
The night had fully set in.
The tall, impossibly handsome man stepped out of the vehicle.
He crossed the sidewalk and walked into a pharmacy.
The woman working the night shift was bored out of her mind. When she looked up and saw this absolute god of a man walk in, her eyes practically turned into hearts. Luther walked straight up to the counter, casually grabbed two XL boxes from the display, pulled two hundred-dollar bills from his wallet, slapped them down, and walked right back out.
The clerk called after him a couple of times, but he didn't even turn around.
She checked the bills; thankfully, they were real.
Wow. Were hot guys really in that much of a rush these days?
She peeked out the window and saw a ridiculously expensive car parked on the curb.
