Matilda's birthday banquet arrived exactly on schedule.

Hilda was the organizer.

She arrived at the Sanford Estate early in the morning with June to start preparations. When Luther's mother saw June, she thought she was a secretary from Luther's office and praised her for looking so sweet. Sophie's daughter, Rebecca, was also incredibly helpful, assisting Hilda endlessly both inside and out.

At eight o'clock, Luther arrived with little Annie.

The black Bentley slid to a stop, and the dashing man stepped out holding the little girl. That sight made Eleanor's eyes turn red, and she hurried over, choking back a sob. "Today is Matilda's big day. Seeing you and Hilda getting along so well will make her incredibly happy, and I'm sure she'll recover faster."

Luther said gently, "I'll take Annie to wish her a happy birthday first."

Eleanor quickly gathered her emotions—

"Go on, hurry."

"Hilda is busy right now, so you take Annie up first. Matilda has been asking for her all morning."

...

Luther carried the little girl upstairs.

As he passed through the lobby, he saw Hilda holding a blueprint, talking to Rebecca. Rebecca was hovering close to her, her youthful face filled with utter admiration. That look touched something inside Luther. He looked back at his wife. She was wearing only light makeup, looking glowing, radiant, and undeniably beautiful.

As if sensing his gaze.

Hilda looked up.

The man's eyes were as deep as the ocean.

Annie called out "Mommy" in her sweet, soft voice.

Hilda walked over and patted the little girl's head. "Go on up. Don't keep Great-Nana waiting."

Luther's eyes fell on the jade bracelet around Hilda's slender wrist. He knew it was one of Matilda's most treasured pieces. Hilda had put it on specifically to make the old lady happy on such an important day. After looking at it for a long moment, the man's voice went hoarse: "It looks very nice on you."

Hilda didn't say much.

She just offered a very faint smile.

Luther watched her for a few more seconds before carrying little Annie upstairs.

Hilda was busy the entire day.

Matilda was in a fantastic mood. During the family lunch, she even had herself helped downstairs to eat noodles with them. When it was time to cut the cake, little Annie held Matilda's hand and they sliced it together. The old lady's eyes crinkled with joy. She looked at little Annie, then at Hilda, and finally turned to Luther, saying with utmost satisfaction, "You treat her well."

Luther looked exceptionally sharp today, wearing a purely hand-tailored black suit with a dark gray shirt underneath. The premium fabric made him look even more aristocratic.

He wrapped one arm around Hilda and smiled as he promised the old lady he would.

Hilda smiled back, perfectly playing the role of the devoted wife.

Lori took the family photo.

—With Matilda at the very center.

[...emmmm you guys seem to have forgotten about Jolie Lovell.]

[At best, she's just a mistress.]

[Mistresses don't make it into the family registry, and they definitely don't make it into the family photo, hahaha.]

...

Amidst the tidal wave of mockery.

Jolie smashed her laptop in her office.

Her chest heaved violently.

Luther had forbidden her from attending the banquet, saying it wasn't 'appropriate.'

How the hell was it not appropriate?!

Why was he lifting that bitch up on a pedestal?!

That bitch clearly had a bastard with some other man.

Why was Luther claiming that little bastard as his own?!

Did he even know what he was doing?! She refused to accept this. She couldn't let Hilda occupy that spot. She was going to tell the whole world they had all been played. She was going to prove that Hilda had cheated, and that the child wasn't Luther's, but just some filthy little bastard.
