Chapter 86
Stella received the photos and videos of Faith’s one-month celebration from Theodore.
He said, “Faith picked the good-luck charm you gave her, and she was so happy about it, too The little one definitely knows it was from her mommy.”
Seeing Faith beaming with joy, Stella couldn’t help but smile as well. By now, she had calmly accepted the reality. Even if she couldn’t be by her daughter’s side, she wanted to watch her grow up.
From the photos, she could tell that Faith was truly well cared for. The Somertons genuinely loved her.
“She’s a clever little girl,” Stella replied.
“Of course. Any kid of yours would be smart,”
That same day, Stella suddenly received a call from Tristan. “I’m going on a business trip for a few days. Come over and take care of the baby.”
She froze at his words. She had thought he was calling to discuss the divorce, but there were still three days left in the cooldown period.
For a long while, she was left in a daze, not knowing how to respond. She had never expected him to take the initiative to ask her to go back and care for the child.
What exactly did he mean by this? Was he just being courteous? But they were about to get divorced very soon.
Tristan had always been decisive, never going back on his word. Besides, with how much he loathed her, there was no way it was because he didn’t want to go through with the divorce. So, the only possibility was that he was doing it for Faith’s sake.
Stella clutched her phone tightly, and silence stretched over the line as Tristan waited for her answer. Seconds ticked by, tormenting her. It felt as if a huge boulder were pressing on her chest, suffocating her.
Finally, she said, “I can’t take care of the baby. You take good care of her.”
She tried her best to keep her emotions under control. She knew this was the only chance Tristan would give her.
The moment the words left her mouth, he hung up without saying another word.
Stella weakly lowered her phone.
Chapter 86
The emotions she had been holding back finally broke through. Her nose stung, and her eyes turned red. Tears flowed uncontrollably down her cheeks.
Just then, Layla walked in carrying a plate of fruit and found Stella’s eyes puffy. Alarmed, she hurried over and sat on the edge of the bed. She put down the plate and grabbed a tissue before pulling Stella into a tight hug.
“What’s going on? What happened?” she asked anxiously.
Stella buried her face in Layla’s shoulder as she burst into loud sobs.
Layla’s heart ached for her. She gently patted her back and said, “If you want to cry,
want to cry, then cry. Everything will be okay once you’ve cried it out.”
Gary stood at the door, watching Stella. Tears welled up in his eyes, and he silently turned and left.
A long while later, Stella gradually calmed down. Exhausted from crying, she fell asleep on the
bed.
