The first Sunday of June arrived, a day marked as perfectly auspicious.
It was the day of the wedding between Caleb, CEO of Fairchild Holdings, and Kayla.
The Fairchild wedding was even more extravagant than Lyra remembered from her past life.
In that previous timeline, rumors of Caleb and Rowan getting into a physical fight over Jasmine had cast an invisible shadow over Caleb and Kayla's big day. Lyra had even overheard guests gossiping at the reception, whispering that Caleb was only settling for Kayla because he couldn't have Jasmine.
Those vicious rumors had infuriated both the Fairchild and Harrington families, but it had driven Lyra absolutely mad.
Now, given a second chance, there was no such drama to ruin the day, and Lyra was thrilled.
After the ceremony, the music shifted to a new rhythm, and Lyra made her way toward Caspian.
"Cas, care to dance?"
At Caleb and Kayla's wedding in her past life, Lyra had asked Rowan for the opening dance, and he had coldly rejected her.
This time, Caspian smiled in response. "I'd love to."
Lyra smiled and gracefully extended her hand.
She was wearing a gorgeous pink gown that hugged her stunning curves. Her dark hair was styled into a sleek updo, highlighting the elegant line of her neck. Her features were radiant and pure, naturally drawing the eyes of everyone in the room.
As she glided onto the dance floor with Caspian, several single men from the Harrington side of the family immediately began asking around to find out who she was.
Lyra had taken dance lessons as a child. Her movements were fluid, striking a perfect balance of sharpness and delicate grace. Set against the seductive, romantic melody, her performance ignited a heated thrill in the chests of those watching, leaving them inexplicably breathless.
Lucas Chavez stood at the edge of the floor, watching her with a predatory gaze. His Adam's apple bobbed as his grip tightened dangerously around his crystal glass.
Madeline pulled out her phone and snapped a rapid succession of photos before deciding it wasn't enough and switching to video. Through her screen, Lyra looked blindingly beautiful, her pink skirt twirling, her eyes sparkling with luminous joy.
"My Lyra is just... impossibly breathtaking..."
"Lyra, you're killing it!" Madeline cheered. Then, glancing past her screen, she noticed the romantic atmosphere had caught on. Swayed by the music, the groom was leaning in to kiss his bride.
Time seemed to stand still in that tranquil, lingering moment.
"Oh my God, I don't even know where to look! Caleb is going for it."
Madeline quickly panned her camera to capture the newlyweds. Only after they broke apart, with Kayla looking delightfully flushed, did she turn the lens back to Lyra.
As the music slowed, Madeline noticed that it wasn't just Lucas whose eyes were glued to the dance floor. Even Rowan was—
Jasmine exhaled a quiet breath of relief.
She cast a fleeting, indifferent look toward Lyra, who was stepping off the floor after entirely stealing the spotlight.
When it came to Lyra, Jasmine wasn't worried.
The girl was nothing more than a pretty face with zero substance. That was why she had chased Rowan for years and gotten absolutely nowhere. Instead of wasting energy on Lyra, Jasmine knew she should be worrying about someone else.
The woman who had given Rowan a single car ride and somehow gotten promoted from a simple bottle girl to a receptionist at The Jameson Grand.
Not only did the woman have striking looks, but she also had a very distinct personality.
Jasmine couldn't shake the feeling that she had seen her somewhere before.
She just couldn't place it.
...
Victoria hadn't initially approved of Lyra and Caspian as a couple, but seeing them now, she had to admit they looked perfect together. She took Lyra's hand and teased Caspian, "Well, you certainly managed to keep up with her out there."
Caspian laughed. "She's an incredible dancer! I almost couldn't keep pace."
