The next day, Leo found out Lyra had a few days off and came over to see her, bringing Maddie along for the ride.
"I've been back for ages, and we haven't done anything fun yet. We used to hang out all the time! Let's check out Willow Creek Historic Town on the outskirts today. It's quiet, not too crowded, and the scenery is supposed to be amazing."
Knowing her daughter was probably going stir-crazy at home, Delilah didn't object. Seeing Lyra's friends brought a gentle smile to her face. "Go on, it'll be good for you to get out. The three of you know each other well, so just look out for one another. Try not to stay out too late."
Lyra was more than happy to agree.
The trio piled into one car for the trip.
The moment Maddie got in, she leaned back in the rear seat to catch up on sleep and was out cold within minutes. Lyra sat in the passenger seat, chatting casually with Leo as he drove.
After an hour and a half, the car slowly rolled into the historic town, and Maddie finally woke up. She stretched lazily and asked Leo, "Isn't your grandfather handing the company over to you? Is it really okay for you to be slacking off and sightseeing all day?"
"He says he's giving it to me, but I bet he's just keeping the seat warm for his precious golden boy," Leo grumbled, a sour note in his voice. "Ever since Lucas left again, he's practically stopped eating."
They parked and strolled leisurely down the cobblestone streets.
Bridges arched over tranquil streams, framed by whitewashed walls and dark tiled roofs.
Lyra snapped a few pictures on her phone.
They hadn't walked far when a mouthwatering aroma drifted their way. Just ahead, a massive line had formed outside a tiny, unassuming Savory Street Crepe stall.
Even on a weekday, the line was incredibly long. The sizzling scent of eggs and savory batter made both Maddie and Lyra stop in their tracks.
"That looks so good, doesn't it?" Maddie practically drooled.
Lyra nodded. "It's a shame the line is so long. We'd be waiting forever."
"You want one? Easy," Leo flashed a confident grin. He had never been shy and was practically a master of working a crowd.
