Chapter 30
Meanwhile, Lyra continued working.
With her duties at Fairchild Holdings on hold, she focused entirely on her international business ventures.
Fortunately, Lucas didn’t call again, and she managed to work peacefully until 2 A.M. before finally going to sleep.
The next day, just as she woke up around noon and started getting ready, Madeline called.
“Lyra… guess who I just saw at the dealership? Rowan and Jasmine, picking out a car.”
Lyra felt absolutely nothing upon hearing the news. “Yeah, Lucas and the others were helping her pick out a model yesterday.”
“Jasmine has been driving her dad’s car since she got back, but I never imagined her upgrade would be paid for by Rowan! Oh my god! A fifty-million-dollar supercar, and he just swiped his card like it was nothing!” Madeline exploded. “What makes her so special that she gets all these men orbiting her? Lucas and Waylon help her pick the car, and Rowan pays for it. The whole dealership staff was swarming her, taking pictures, giving her flowers. She definitely didn’t spend a single cent of her own money, it was all Rowan… Does she even have any shame? It makes me sick just thinking about it.”
Lyra chuckled, setting her phone on the bathroom counter and putting it on speaker. “When I get rich, I’ll buy you one too.”
Madeline paused. She completely didn’t expect Lyra to be so chill and joke around instead of getting mad. She instantly brightened up. “Yes! I’m holding you to that.”
“Are you really not angry?”
Lyra replied, “It’s not my money he’s spending, why should I be mad?”
Madeline still sighed heavily over the phone. “Jasmine is so damn lucky she found a guy that generous.”
“If only you were the one who saved him from the ocean that night.”
Lyra froze, snatching up her phone. “Don’t say things like that,” she said, her voice turning cold.
“Okay, okay, I was just saying.” Madeline had gone to the dealership with her college roommate. After venting to Lyra, she quickly hung up.
Her friend, also from a wealthy family, had actually wanted Madeline to introduce her to Rowan when they spotted him earlier.
Rowan was ridiculously handsome, and the woman beside him in the fitted dress was stunning!
But Madeline had looked so furious that it seemed like she had a personal vendetta against them.
Her friend had to settle for a distant glance at the dazzling couple before following Madeline out the door.
After hanging up, Lyra headed downstairs for lunch.
Deep down, she was admittedly a little irritated. Jasmine had stolen her credit, and now she was reaping the rewards in the form of a massive, unearned luxury car.
But then she shifted her perspective.
The sweeter their relationship, the better.
She hoped that when the brilliant, calculating Rowan fell deep into the trap of love, his brain would
Rowan wanted to make his support for the Fords public and undeniable!
Caleb never imagined Rowan would go to such lengths for Jasmine.
Since when was the great Rowan Jameson such a devoted romantic?
Lyra took a bite of her food and looked up, catching Caleb staring at her with a complicated mix of pity and heartache.
She immediately knew exactly what was going on in his head.
“If the Jameson Group owns shares, it makes perfect sense for them to help the Ford family. So what? Is that why you’ve lost your appetite today?”
Lyra tipped her chin toward his bowl, noting he hadn’t touched a single grain of rice.
Caleb really didn’t have much of an appetite today.
But after Lyra pointed it out, he kept his head down and started eating.
Caleb lowered his gaze and took a bite of vegetables.
As he chewed in silence, his sister’s gentle voice suddenly floated down from above. “Don’t worry, Caleb. Things are going to be different this time.”
Caleb had no idea what she meant by ‘different, but he instinctively hummed in agreement.
