Jasmine returned home, looking utterly devastated.
Her family had been waiting anxiously. The moment they saw her, they crowded around her, their eyes full of expectation.
"What did Rowan say?"
Tabitha and Grandma Ford bombarded her with questions about how the dinner went.
They were all dying to know if Rowan had proposed today and if they had set a wedding date.
A wave of grievance and bitterness choked Jasmine, threatening to drown her entirely. But she maintained her usual poise, masking the misery in her eyes, and replied calmly, "No, he has to leave for another business trip immediately. He just rushed back to have a quick dinner with me."
"Rowan is so busy," Elara pouted in disappointment, a flicker of letdown passing through her eyes.
Grandma Ford maintained a serene expression, saying smoothly, "He manages a vast empire. The fact that he made time specifically to dine with you shows he holds you in his heart and values you deeply."
Tabitha shared the sentiment, chiming in, "Exactly. A busy man like him is always flying around the world, yet he has treated you with the same devotion for the past three years. That kind of sincerity is incredibly rare."
Jasmine just offered a small smile, her tone faint. "I'm going to my room."
Tabitha, ever observant, saw right through her superficial smile.
She figured Jasmine was simply disheartened by the delayed proposal. Aside from that, she thought nothing more of it.
The moment the lock clicked, all of Jasmine's forced composure crumbled. She leaned against the cold door to catch her breath, then walked over to her vanity. The tears she had been fighting back finally slipped silently down her cheeks.
Why?
Why could he severe everything with a single sentence? From start to finish, I don't even have the right to put up a fight.
Did he have another woman?
Countless suspicions churned in Jasmine's eyes.
Was it Josie Somerset?
Or Lyra Fairchild?
He had known Josie and Lyra for years. Lyra, especially, since childhood. If he was truly interested, why wait until now?
