The next day, a new kitchen helper arrived at the Fairchild estate to share the workload with Martha.
Kayla introduced the newcomer as Mrs. Whittaker. She looked to be in her fifties with a warm, kindly face. When Lyra glanced over, their eyes met, and she offered a polite greeting.
"Ma'am, Miss Fairchild, I brought some fresh tea from my hometown. Please, try a cup." Mrs. Whittaker was quick on her feet, efficiently brewing two cups and offering them with a smile.
Kayla took a delicate sip and immediately praised her. "This is wonderful."
Lyra took a sip as well, but she kept her guard up. Before leaving for work, she stopped by the servant's quarters and asked Mrs. Whittaker for her ID and medical records. After a brief chat about her background and finding no red flags, Lyra finally headed to the office.
Figuring out how to deliver the St. Christopher pendant to Andrea proved to be a challenge.
After some thought, she boxed it up, took Caleb's car, and drove straight to the Jameson Group's front desk.
The receptionists instantly recognized the Fairchild heiress. Assuming she was there for the CEO, one reached for the phone to dial Wesley Wade's extension. Lyra quickly stopped her, clarifying that the package was for Andrea.
But the receptionist had no idea who Andrea was.
Since Andrea spent most of her time operating in the shadows and rarely visited the corporate headquarters, the confusion was expected.
Just then, Wesley returned the receptionist's call.
The receptionist asked the assistant if he knew an Andrea Nash, mentioning that Lyra was there to drop off an item for her. Whatever Wesley said made the receptionist nod eagerly. She turned to Lyra. "Miss Fairchild, you can head right up."
Lyra blinked, taken aback. "That won't be necessary. I need to get to work. Please just ask Assistant Wade to pass the message to Andrea."
She turned and walked out, ignoring the receptionist's desperate calls for her to stop.
High above in the executive suite, Rowan left his desk and stepped over to the floor-to-ceiling windows. With one hand tucked into his pocket, his predatory gaze locked onto the bustling street below. He watched as her slender figure slipped into the driver's seat and sped off without a backward glance.
