Chapter 63
That afternoon, Lyra ended up working through her lunch break.
By one o’clock, the corporate cafeteria was completely cleared out.
When Caleb Fairchild realized she hadn’t eaten, he immediately dragged her out to a nearby
restaurant.
“Mom mentioned you’ve been working yourself to the bone. She ordered me to make sure you actually eat,” Caleb said as he pushed open the restaurant doors. Just as they stepped inside, they bumped into Jasmine Ford and her family walking out after their meal.
Caleb’s gaze swept coldly over Jasmine’s face.
Jasmine offered him a slight, polite nod.
Her expression was completely placid and unbothered. She acknowledged Caleb but didn’t even spare Lyra a single glance.
Caleb didn’t say a word, simply grabbing Lyra’s arm and guiding her past them into a private dining
room.
Outside, Tabitha glanced back and muttered, “I hear that Caleb is incredibly protective of his sister.”
“Jasmine, he completely ignored you just now.”
“Well, he has nothing to do with you anymore…”
A forced smile touched Jasmine’s lips, not quite reaching her eyes. “We never had anything to do with each other to begin with.”
“Was that Caleb?” Elara Townsend practically swooned beside them. “I had no idea he was so gorgeous!”
“It’s seriously not fair. Everyone in Lyra’s circle is so incredibly attractive!”
“Who cares? She still lost to your cousin,” Tabitha remarked coldly.
“That’s true,” Elara agreed, her eyes lighting up. “When Rowan set off those fireworks for Jasmine on New Year’s Eve, it went viral online. Half of Seaborne City knows about it now. Even though Rowan had it scrubbed from the trends pretty fast, I guarantee Lyra saw it.”
“Lyra is honestly pathetic. She’s acting like she doesn’t care now, but Jasmine told me Rowan rejected her confessions so many times. She was just too delusional to accept that he felt absolutely nothing for her. Now that Jasmine is back and Rowan treats her like a queen, Lyra finally has to face reality.”
Tabitha nodded, thoroughly enjoying the flattering narrative.
Moments later, their ride pulled up. Jonathan Ford had recently assigned them a private chauffeur.
Elara’s mother, Valerie Townsend, climbed into the car as well.
Valerie took the passenger seat and turned around to ask, “Jasmine, is it true that Vivienne Jameson and her daughter have really taken a liking to you?”

“Yes,” Jasmine nodded. “Rowan wanted his aunt to put in a good word with his grandfather, so he brought me over to her house to meet them.”
“I heard the Sutton family is incredibly wealthy too,” Valerie sighed in admiration. “Rowan treats you so perfectly. He’s so dependable.”
Tabitha couldn’t have agreed more. She patted her daughter’s hand with deep satisfaction.
“Commissioner Jameson and his wife will absolutely adore Jasmine too.”
Elara chimed in confidently, “As soon as they meet her, they’ll completely erase Lyra from their minds.”
That was an undeniable fact.
Tabitha had complete faith in that outcome.
The moment Charles and Victoria Jameson met Jasmine, they would be won over.
Lyra, an unremarkable language major with zero business acumen, wasn’t even in the same league.
Meanwhile, Caleb sat down, ordered a few signature dishes, and brought up business. “Dad is seriously considering a joint venture with the Jameson Group.”
The upcoming project was a massive government initiative partnering with top local corporations.
Lyra remained silent. She was well aware of the project.
The Jameson family had made a fortune on it in her previous life.
If Fairchild Holdings could secure a partnership, it would be a massively lucrative move.
At this point, there was no logical reason for her to interfere.
Given the sheer dominance of both families, the government would inevitably choose the Jameson Group if they entered the bid.
When it came to this specific project, her hands were tied.
“The Jamesons still seem pretty guilty about everything that went down between you and Rowan. Commissioner Jameson reached out to Dad personally. He didn’t mention you at all; he just emphasized his desire for a solid partnership.”
“I’m just worried the Ford family will try to sabotage it,” Lyra warned.
“Caleb, you’ve seen it yourself-”
“Because of Jasmine, Rowan has grown incredibly close to Jonathan Ford.”
“That’s honestly not a huge concern,” Caleb said, brimming with confidence in their own family’s power. Their rivals were simply too weak. “Even with Rowan dumping capital into their business, the Fords aren’t heavy hitters yet. For a colossal project like this, the government would never approve the Ford family’s involvement, regardless of how much Rowan pushes for it.”
Lyra nodded slowly.
He made a valid point.

Just then, a sudden hailstorm started pounding against the windows. A young waiter rushed into the room, politely asking for Caleb’s keys so the valet could move his car to a covered spot.
