Although Lyra knew Kayla Harrington intimately from her past life, to Kayla, Lyra was a total stranger they had only met once in passing. Lyra decided it was best not to intrude on her quiet moment.
After parting ways with Maddie, Lyra headed back to the Fairchild estate. She handed both sets of solid gold jewelry over to Delilah for safekeeping.
Delilah's face lit up with pleasure. "My daughter is so thoughtful."
Lyra tapped the box containing the ornate 'The Eternal Union' Suite. "This one is for Kayla when she marries Caleb."
Delilah froze, a fleeting look of awkwardness crossing her elegant features. She silently gestured for Martha to put the boxes away before sitting down across from her daughter. "Are you absolutely certain Caleb and Kayla are going to get married?"
"Of course," Lyra replied with one hundred percent certainty. The events of her past life were burned into her memory. Caleb had married Kayla—that was an undeniable fact.
Not wanting to dwell on the bizarre hesitation, Lyra shifted the topic. "How are things at the company?"
"Everything is phenomenal," Delilah said, relaxing. "The joint venture with the Jameson Group has officially launched. That AI-Visual QA System Quentin Pierce developed is running flawlessly, and the profit margins are destroying our initial projections. Your father has been in a fantastic mood lately."
"That's great." Lyra nodded, a satisfied smile on her lips.
After chatting a bit longer, Lyra stood to head upstairs to rest. But Delilah stopped her with a hesitant question. "Lyra, do you think you and Jasmine could ever be friends again?"
Jasmine? Lyra frowned. When did her mother start talking to Jasmine again?
"Lyra, Seaborne City is a small world at the top. We're bound to run into them constantly. Since we're partnering with their company, are you really going to maintain this icy attitude toward Jasmine and Rowan forever?" Delilah asked, her voice laced with anxiety. She feared her daughter was spiraling into petty resentment despite claiming she didn't care.
Lyra fell silent for a long moment before shaking her head. "I just despise who she is as a person. And it's not just her. Mom, you need to stay away from Tabitha, too. She's toxic."
Lyra remembered all too clearly that in her past life, Jasmine's mother, Tabitha, had directly contributed to Delilah's mental collapse. While Lyra didn't know the exact poison Tabitha had whispered in her mother's ear, Delilah had spiraled soon after. The more market share The Ford Family stole from Fairchild Holdings, the worse Delilah's mental state became, eventually culminating in a complete psychotic break.
Back then, Caleb had been drowning in corporate crises, and Lyra was bedridden with severe illness. The entire weight of the Fairchild estate had fallen onto Kayla's heavily pregnant shoulders.
Lyra knew it hadn't been solely Tabitha's fault. Her mother had been crushed by the stress of the collapsing company, her fears for Caleb, and the agonizing realization that Lyra was trapped in an abusive, loveless marriage where Rowan openly prioritized his mistress. The combination of mental torment and immense external pressure had shattered her mind.
