Chapter 22
There were very few people who knew the truth about the abduction.
Even Brayden’s friends thought that he was the one who’d planned the entire thing.
However, it wasn’t that simple.
It was true that Brayden had planned the abduction, but something unexpected happened in
the process.
A group of real abductors had discovered his plan and intercepted it. They defeated all of the fake abductors and actually kidnapped Scarlett and Lindsay.
That was why Lindsay had actually been in real danger when Laurence and Azalea chose to leave with Scarlett. Her ferocious captors had genuinely been planning to kill her.
Once Brayden found out, he rushed into their den without any regard for his own safety. He was stabbed three times and almost died before successfully rescuing Lindsay.
When Brayden thought about what had happened back then, he was momentarily lost in
thought.
Over the years, he had asked himself more than once why he had rescued Lindsay despite how
dangerous it was.
He had told himself that it was because he had been the one who plotted the abduction. If Lindsay had died because of it, he would have felt guilty for the rest of his life. He would’ve
been unable to face the Yorks again.
However, deep down, Brayden knew that it wasn’t true.
When he had gone to rescue Lindsay, he was completely caught up in the moment. There had only been one thought on his mind, which was that he couldn’t let Lindsay be in danger.
Brayden felt dazed.
Perhaps he had already fallen in love with her back then.
Now, Brayden was finally willing to acknowledge how he really felt. He loved Lindsay.
When Lindsay first returned to Hulania, Brayden had genuinely been unhappy with her. After all, she had taken Scarlett’s spot and suddenly became his fiancee.
At first, he had only agreed to marry Lindsay because of his parents’ pressure.
He planned on divorcing Lindsay after a couple of years, which would satisfy his parents while also avenging Scarlett.
When had things changed?
Chapter 12
212
Was it when he was pretending to court Lindsay, and she’d blushed and thanked him in a small voice? Or was it the first time he kissed her?
He thought he was the one winning Lindsay over, but he had ended up unwittingly falling for
her.
That was why he was more anxious than anyone else when he heard that Lindsay had actually been abducted.
That was why he had actually been the happiest person at his wedding with Lindsay.
That was also why he had been delaying his divorce from Lindsay, even though he was now the head of the Hart family and could have divorced her at any time.
The truth was that Brayden had fallen in love with Lindsay a long time ago.
