Chapter 24
The next day in Taronta, Lindsay had just gotten out of bed when Francesca suddenly entered, looking conflicted.
Lindsay looked up. “Has something happened, Mom?”
Francesca hesitated, but she replied softly, “Yes, there’s news from Hulania. Brayden has a message that he asked me to pass to you.”
Lindsay was startled, but she immediately said, “I don’t want to hear it.”
Francesca’s eyes glimmered. “Are you sure, Lindsay?”
Truthfully, when she had heard that Brayden had a message for Lindsay, she had wanted to refuse at once.
However, she was stunned when she heard the contents of the message.
She had never imagined that Brayden was now terminally ill, or that he would be ruthless enough to refuse stem cell treatment unless Lindsay returned to him.
He was basically threatening Lindsay.
Francesca hadn’t planned on telling Lindsay, but a man’s life hung in the balance. She was afraid that Lindsay would regret it if she found out, which was why she had decided to tell her.
She said, “This concerns Brayden’s life. Are you sure you don’t want to hear it?”
Unexpectedly, Lindsay didn’t hesitate at all.
“No,” she responded impassively. “Even if he dies, it has nothing to do with me.”
Lindsay wasn’t being ruthless or cruel. She wasn’t sulking, either. She was just being honest.
When she decided to leave Hulania, she had also decided that she would no longer have anything to do with Brayden.
That was why she didn’t want to know anything about him.
Francesca was startled, but then she laughed in relief. “Alright. I knew that my daughter wouldn’t disappoint me.”
Francesca decided not to tell her about Brayden’s condition. She went to the door and said coldly, “Tell Brayden that my daughter isn’t a tool for him to cure his disease. If he wants to be saved, he can look for someone else. Don’t even think about threatening my daughter!”
The entire incident was insignificant to Lindsay, like a pebble dropped into a lake and disappearing without a trace after a few ripples.
Half a year went by. Many things happened during that time.
