Chapter 156 A Match Made in Heaven

Chapter 156 A Match Made In Heaven

Layla’s eyes narrowed in sudden alert. Her mind raced.

She’d already given the Hellwing Starbeast skeleton back to Dizzy, but now someone wanted to use it to mess with November.

‘Wait, does that mean Dizzy is plotting against November? Layla thought, her heart pounding. No, that can’t be right The Hellwing Starbeast skeleton was meant for Ares’s upgrade, and Dizzy had no idea who November really was. ‘So, does that mean Dizzy is actually planning something against Atlas? Layla wondered, her heart sinking. “But why?” Layla looked up at Weston, who was clearly feeling guilty. Her heart skipped a beat. “Weston, does Dizzy have some secret identity? Just let me guess. He’s either working for Prince Krish, or he’s with the rebels, right?”

“No way he’d ever work for that prince!” Weston huffed, his beard bristling. Seeing Layla’s suspicion growing deeper, he finally decided to lay it all out.

“Here’s the deal, Layla. I got word that your family was mixed up with the rebels, and by pure luck, I managed to get inside their organization.

“Once I found out they really were your relatives, you got to meet them again, Weston said, letting out a soft sigh. The leader of the rebels, Daniel, is actually your real father.”

Layla was shell-shocked, sitting there in stunned silence as she tried to wrap her head around everything.

Weston watched her, worry written all over his face.

‘If I’d known Layla was Daniel’s daughter, I never would’ve tried to play matchmaker between her and Prince Atlas, Weston thought, a pang of regret hitting him.

After learning the truth about Layla’s family, Weston felt guilty. But when he found out that Layla and Atlas had a hundred percent genetic compatibility, he couldn’t help but think, ‘Those two are just destined to be partners.

‘Weston always figured Daniel’s rebels wouldn’t clash with Atlas this early, but who could’ve seen the whole Hellwing Starbeast skeleton mess coming and shaking things up?”

Layla lowered her eyes, gazing at her optical computer as she murmured, “No wonder there were so many people in the background during our last video call. Bruce said his dad is my dad’s brother, but all those other brothers are just swom.” ‘How could a regular guy have so many sworn brothers?’ Layla wondered. But if her dad was the leader of the rebels, that explained everything.

Layla felt like fate had a twisted sense of humor. She’d always wished for a normal, uneventful life, but the more she hoped for it, the more life just kept throwing curveballs her way.

Layla sighed. “Back at Wastelands-9 Orphan Core, all I ever dreamed of was a quiet, happy life.”

Weston let out a sigh, too. “Don’t worry, Layla. There’s always a way out. I’d risk everything for you, and I’ll always have your back. So, what’s your plan for dealing with whatever Dizzy and the others are up to?”

Weston knew that the relationship between Layla and Atlas was way better than when they first got married.

But just how deep their feelings ran, and what place Atlas really held in Layla’s heart, was still a mystery.

Layla stared at her fingertips, her voice steady as she asked, “Who are they trying to rescue?”

“Frank, the ninth in line. He joined a rebel raid on Alpha Prime for resources, but Atlas was coming back with his squad and ran into them. Frank got busted, and now he’s stuck in Alpha Prime Prison,” Weston explained.

“So, they’re planning a prison break, but they’re worried Atlas might show up and they won’t stand a chance, so they’re planning to mess with his mech suit, Ares?” Layla asked.

“That’s right,” Weston nodded.

“But none of them told me any of this. Bruce must know too, but he didn’t say a word either. Are they still not trusting me?” Layla asked, doubt flickering in her eyes.

Weston hurried to reassure her, “No, it’s not that. They just don’t want to pull you into all this mess right now, especially since you’re still studying at Imperial Academy.

“Maybe they think keeping you out of the loop is their way of protecting you. Ever since they found you, the whole rebel

base has been celebrating like crazy. Your dad’s already getting a princess room ready for you at the base.

Your dad, the big boss of the rebels, was so happy to find his daughter. He was grinning like a kid.

Even Weston, who’d seen all kinds of ups and downs, couldn’t help but get emotional

Layla took a deep breath and said, “We’ve always suspected there are two rebel factions. The truly heinous acts probably weren’t committed by my father’s group, but I can’t be certain yet. I’ll have to dig deeper into this.

“Right now, I don’t know if my dad and his crew are really doing anything truly unforgivable. And honestly, I’m emotionally attached to them, so for now, I want to keep their secret from everyone on Alpha Prime

“But I also don’t want Atlas to get hurt, Layla said, her voice soft but firm.

Weston couldn’t hide his relief. “I knew it. You and Prince Atlas have gotten a lot closer lately.”

Layla shifted awkwardly. “Not exactly. It’s just aside from his bad temper and how hard he is to get close to, Prince Atlas is actually a really good person.

“If he weren’t protecting Alpha Prime, regular folks wouldn’t have the peaceful lives they do now. He’s earned every bit of his reputation as Alpha Prime’s War God and Guardian.”

Weston stroked his beard. “I get what you mean. You just want to make sure they don’t end up fighting each other, am I right?”

“Yeah,” Layla nodded. “So, I’ll figure out a way to distract Prince Atlas for a while. And as for the Hellwing Starbeast skeleton, I’ll talk him into holding off on using it for now.”

As for Dizzy and the others breaking into the prison, Layla decided to just pretend she didn’t know anything about it.

She still didn’t really know her father and his brothers, so at that moment, all she could do was just watch from the sidelines.

Weston nodded. “Yeah, that’s probably for the best. Keep things drama-free. So, what kind of excuse are you gonna use to distract Prince Atlas?”

“He’s in his November mode right now, so honestly, if I just blurt out that I want to go stargazing in space, he’d say yes without even thinking,” Layla said, her tone a little sheepish.

Weston felt a wave of emotion inside. ‘My silly apprentice, that sly fox is just pretending,’ he thought to himself.

But then he shrugged it off, thinking, ‘Whatever, if those lovebirds are getting closer, that’s better than anything else.’

With things handled for now, Weston finally relaxed. He turned to Layla and said, “Layla, I’ve got to get back to Dizzy and the

crew.

“They want me to make a few tweaks to the Hellwing Starbeast skeleton, so I won’t be hanging around. Oh, and keep an eye on Xanthe.

“If she really got taken over, and she knows about your thing with Atlas, I’m worried she might also know your dad’s connection to the rebels.”

Layla lowered her eyes. “I’m not sure if she knows or not, but she said some really weird stuff. She told me Prince Atlas and I were never meant to be together, and that we should just break up before we get too attached.”

Layla suddenly paused, her mind racing. ‘Wait, could Xanthe actually know about my real background?’ she thought. But there was no proof yet.

Finally, Layla said, “I’ll keep an eye on Xanthe.”

“Good. See you later, Layla. I’m heading out now…” Weston’s optical computer buzzed again, and he had to leave.

Just as Weston opened the door to Layla’s dorm, he found someone standing right there.

November narrowed his eyes, a dangerous glint flashing. “Weston, what are you doing here?”
