Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 153

Lily was fiercely protective of the baby she was carrying, and her hand instinctively flew to guard her stomach.

"Summer, you're crossing the line."

Summer stared at her coldly. "Crossing the line? Or are you just guilty? You're too much of a coward! You're terrified that the karma will actually strike your precious child."

Xavier's expression darkened into an ugly scowl. "Summer, I know you're grieving, but do you really need to be so vicious? Do you have any idea what a child means to a mother? You're threatening Lily with an unborn baby. Are you even human?"

"Oh, so now you care about what a child means to a mother?" Summer sneered at Xavier with pure contempt. "Where was this energy when you used Leo to threaten me? Where was this empathy when my son got his head bashed in by Hunter? I'm not human? Then what the hell are you? A monster?"

Xavier ground his jaw, his expression freezing over. "Summer, you don't have to say things you don't mean out of spite. I know you're not thinking straight right now, so I'll let this slide. Whether Lily meant it or not, the police will clear her name. She doesn't need to swear any ridiculous oaths, and she has no obligation to prove herself to you. It was an accident!"

With that, Xavier looked at Miles and Lily. "You two go home first."

Lily asked softly, "Xavier, what about you?"

Xavier glanced at Summer. "I'm staying here. To be with her."

"I don't need you," Summer cut in sharply. "Sebastian is here for me. Why don't you scurry on home with your precious sweetheart? After all, she just took a man's life. I wonder if she'll be able to sleep tonight, or if she'll wake up in a cold sweat, terrified that there's a blood-soaked ghost standing at the foot of her bed demanding to know why she did it."

Xavier snapped, "Summer, you are taking this way too far!"

"Is she?" Sebastian Stone's deep voice interrupted. "Summer completely lost her father thanks to Ms. Sutton's 'kindness.' Mr. Sterling, I think her reaction is perfectly human."

"Don't bother, Sebastian. You can try explaining human decency to him, but he won't understand it."

Sebastian played along perfectly. "Why wouldn't he?"

"Because only humans understand decency. Let's go."

Without another word, Summer marched deeper into the precinct. Sebastian gave Xavier a curt nod and quickly followed after her.

Summer stared at them with dead eyes. "I'm not signing anything. I'm not settling. I want all of you rotting in a cell."

If Jared went to prison, the Vance family's lineage was ruined.

Mrs. Vance had been banking on Jared getting married and giving her a bunch of chubby great-grandsons to carry on the family name.

Even worse, alongside Jared, her eldest son and daughter were also facing jail time. If they got locked away, who was going to take care of her in her old age?

Mrs. Vance felt her entire world collapsing. She slammed her hand on the table and shrieked with venom, "Summer! You ungrateful brat! You vicious little tramp! If my son hadn't adopted you, you'd be absolutely nothing!"

Summer locked eyes with the old woman, her tone radiating a terrifying malice she had never shown before. "You have the nerve to bring up my dad? You killed him. You wicked old hag, why wasn't it you who died? You murdered your own son, so enjoy rotting in hell."

"You little bitch, what nonsense are you spouting? I didn't do anything! It was Maeve, that barren waste, who killed Edward! Yes, it was her! A jinx, a curse, a plague! Not only is she useless, but she also killed Edward! I knew I never should have let her into this family!"
