Having grown up in the countryside, Summer knew perfectly well that you couldn't be polite during a rural dispute. Your words had to be sharper, and your voice had to be louder.
She snapped right back, "Bullshit! Everyone for miles knows how much my parents loved each other. He was a respected teacher, upright and honest. You're only doing this because he passed away, and you think you can exploit a dead man's silence to steal my family's assets! Let me tell you, you old hag, as long as I'm breathing, you will not slander my father! You won't throw dirt on his name! And you definitely won't get your hands on our property. Even if I have to donate every cent to the village or the school, you won't get a dime!"
"You wretched girl, I have a paternity test right here!" Beulah pulled out a slightly worn DNA report.
The village chief and the locals passed it around until it finally landed in Sebastian's hands.
Sebastian adjusted his stance. "Just call the police and let them investigate. If this report is forged and they are trying to claim an inheritance through fraud, that is a serious felony. We can press charges and send all of them to prison."
Summer laughed coldly. "That's perfect. Jared, his parents, and Tiffany's mother just went to prison for kidnapping and attempted murder. You can all join them and keep them company. Such a deeply loving family, sticking together even behind bars."
Beulah's expression didn't show a hint of panic. Instead, she looked even more smug. "Then call the cops! Let them check it. We'll see if this report is real or not!"
Summer scoffed. "Call them!"
The police arrived shortly after.
The paternity test was indeed authentic. It hadn't been forged.
"And to think we respected him all these years. Thinking about it now makes me sick to my stomach."
Listening to the villagers' whispers, Summer glared sharply at Beulah. "Are you happy now? Your son is being called trash. And it's all thanks to his own mother!"
"My son did nothing wrong!" Beulah yelled back. "It's all that barren Maeve's fault! She couldn't have kids but refused to get a divorce. She wanted my son's bloodline to die out. She's a toxic woman!"
"Who exactly is toxic here?!" Summer shouted, her eyes blazing red. "The one who couldn't have kids wasn't my mom; it was my dad! He went to the hospital and got checked—he was completely infertile! My mom claimed it was her own health issue because she was terrified people would laugh at him and gossip!"
"Which means it's physically impossible for my dad to have a secret son!"
