Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 181

Xavier felt a sharp sting of irritation at Summer's biting words.

Just then, Silas Sinclair's assistant arrived. "Ms. Vance, my apologies. I'm late and kept you waiting. Right this way."

Summer smiled and nodded. "Thank you for coming down to get me, Franklin. I just got here myself. Let's go."

Without sparing another glance at Lily or the others, Summer followed Silas's assistant up to the second floor.

"Xavier," Lily said, looking at him. "I was just worried Summer might sell company secrets, so I wanted to give her a warning."

Xavier's gaze turned somber, his voice turning to ice. "If she dared, then she wouldn't mind spending a few years behind bars."

Wesley Whitmore listened to their exchange without saying a word.

He had initially thought Xavier was entirely at fault—flaunting his affair with Lily before even finalizing a divorce, only to get caught red-handed by his wife.

Summer had every right to be furious.

But Summer didn't seem so simple either. She possessed a calm, elegant composure, a sharp tongue that aimed straight for the jugular, and, surprisingly, she was clearly involved with Silas Sinclair. Their relationship didn't look simple at all.

The Sterling and Sinclair families were sworn enemies!

So, deciding who was right and who was wrong was impossible right now. Of course, it was none of his business, so he wisely kept his mouth shut.

Meanwhile, up on the second floor, in a VIP suite.

The moment Summer stepped inside, a tiny figure rushed over and threw himself into her arms.

"Mom!"

Summer hugged Leo tightly. The little boy smelled faintly of warm cedar and oud—the signature scent Silas always wore.

She looked Leo over carefully. He was clearly being well taken care of. His little face was clean and bright, his clothes were immaculate, and he looked far better than he had in days.

Summer gently pinched his soft cheek. "Why did you tag along?"

In the end, they only won the sapphire jewelry. The calligraphy had been snatched up by the man sitting next to Xavier—Wesley.

Silas then pushed two more gift boxes toward Summer. One held the antique jade imperial chess set, and the other contained the antique tea set.

Seeing those two items made Summer acutely aware that she had essentially conned Silas out of hundreds of millions of dollars.

Just thinking about the price tag made her chest tight; she felt like she needed to hyperventilate.

Silas said, "These are my gifts for Leo. Please hold onto them for him."

Summer knew Silas phrased it that way on purpose, afraid she would refuse to accept them.

She couldn't help but let out a helpless laugh. Tapping her slender fingers against the antique tea set, she asked, "Mr. Sinclair, do you know why I bid on this tea set?"

Silas and Leo both looked at her curiously.

Summer said earnestly, "You've helped me so much. I originally wanted to win this tea set as a gift to thank you."
