Summer looked confused. "He wouldn't mind dating a divorcee?"
"Not at all, not at all!" Dr. Whitmore waved his hand dismissively. "If any woman is willing to marry that idiot, I'd thank my lucky stars. Let alone a wonderful girl like you."
He leaned in, looking at Summer with eyes full of hope. "So, are you willing to go on a blind date?"
Summer had absolutely zero interest in entertaining a romance right now. She couldn't afford it; it was exhausting both mentally and emotionally.
But she thought of Maeve. Dr. Whitmore had said Wesley was the only one who could do it.
If she was going to convince Wesley, she needed Dr. Whitmore on her side.
Swallowing her reluctance, Summer forced a smile and nodded. "Sure."
Dr. Whitmore was ecstatic. He leaned in conspiratorially and whispered, "I know exactly where Wesley headed. You can go find him and talk to him again. If he still says no, don't worry. When he gets back tonight, I'll figure out a way to lean on him."
Summer nodded gratefully. "Thank you, Mr. Whitmore."
"Just call me Grandpa, no need to be so formal." Dr. Whitmore was over the moon. "Oh, right, let Grandpa give you his phone number, his messaging app info, his social media handles... I'll give you everything."
And just like that, Summer effortlessly secured all of Wesley's contact information, right down to his gaming accounts.
In Grandpa Whitmore's own words: *Spam him all you want. Don't worry about making him mad. If he gets mad, I'll deal with him.*

The Apex Racing Club, Empire City's most exclusive venue.
Summer hadn't expected Wesley to come here. There was a race scheduled for today, meaning entry was strictly by invitation only.
Grandpa Whitmore obviously hadn't known that, and Summer only found out once she arrived at the door.
"Summer, you can't get in here without an invitation," Lily's voice drifted over from nearby.
Summer glanced over and immediately spotted Wesley standing behind the group.
But Xavier was there, too.
After all, Xavier was his childhood best friend.
So, Wesley kept his mouth shut and didn't intervene.
However, he didn't enjoy seeing Lily gang up on Summer either. He had never noticed before just how... repulsive Lily's behavior could be.
Yes, repulsive.
Whatever bad blood existed between Lily and Summer, Summer was simply standing at the entrance minding her own business. Lily could have easily ignored her and walked inside.
But she just *had* to walk over and play the 'concerned friend.'
Anyone with eyes could see Summer wanted absolutely nothing to do with her, just like that night at the auction.
But Lily acted oblivious, pushing her fake sweetness in a way that was incredibly grating.
Summer had, after all, come here looking for him.
