Lily buried her face in Xavier's chest and began to cry. "Xavier, I've dreamed of earning Professor Banks's approval! I want to be his student. If Summer's achievements were greater than mine, if she were actually better than me, I'd accept it. I'd concede gracefully! But Summer doesn't even have a single patent!!! What gives her the right?!"
"Alright, shh," Xavier soothed, gently rubbing her back. "Lily, I've told you. Whatever you want, I will find a way to place it right in your hands."
"But I want to earn it myself," Lily sniffled, wiping her tears. "I don't want people saying I rode your coattails."
"You didn't. I'm yours, so me helping you is just you helping yourself."
Lily finally let out a wet laugh. Xavier breathed a sigh of relief. "Let's go. I'll help you write the proposal tonight."
Lily smiled and nodded. "Okay."

The next afternoon.
Harrison Banks made time to host a virtual meeting.
His face was thunderous. "Lead Sutton, let me clarify something. Is this utterly useless trash your proposal? Are you absolutely sure you didn't attach the wrong file? Did you accidentally send me the contents of your recycle bin instead?"
Harrison was dead serious. Even through the screen, his oppressive, formidable aura was palpable.
Lily's heart instantly leapt into her throat, hammering frantically against her ribs. But she couldn't afford to break down before assessing the damage.
She curled her fingers into tight fists and forced herself to stay calm. "No, sir."
The moment the word left Lily's mouth, Harrison's expression turned terrifyingly sharp. "Well then, Lead Sutton, perhaps you can explain why this proposal has a ninety percent AI redundancy rate?"
Lily gave a stiff, dry explanation. "Professor Banks, I just used AI to polish the phrasing."
Harrison's expression grew even darker, his voice cracking like a whip. "Polish? Lead Sutton, I expect you to remember that you are a scientific researcher, not a novelist! Our work demands rigor, dedication, professionalism, and responsibility! We prioritize precision, efficiency, and authenticity!"
