Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 244

"Xavier, you have no idea how harsh Professor Banks's tone was, or how awful the things he called me were! He did it in front of everyone! I was utterly humiliated, I..." She burst into sobs.

"Alright, it's not over yet, you still have a chance. Professor Banks is notoriously strict with everyone, not just you. Let's focus on getting the proposal written. We'll make it flawless this time. You'll make him see you in a new light and win back your pride."

With that, Sterling Group's brightest minds were mobilized. Through an intense afternoon of brainstorming, they finally drafted the project proposal.

This time, Lily gave it her absolute all, participating in every single step of the writing process.

Overflowing with confidence, she submitted the document to Harrison.

The following day, Harrison called for another virtual meeting, and Lily was chewed out once again.

Harrison's face was livid. "Lead Sutton, did my words from yesterday go in one ear and out the other? Or do you have a hearing impairment? I explicitly told you not to send me any more garbage!"

Lily had been so sure of herself, yet here she was, being berated for a third time.

The smile froze entirely on Lily's face. Gritting her teeth, she put on a mask of utmost respect and apologized. "I'm incredibly sorry, Professor Banks. Please tell me where the proposal falls short, and I will revise it immediately."

Harrison's voice was frigid. "Lead Sutton, let's get one thing straight! This is not a classroom, it's a project team! I am not a professor holding office hours, and you are not a student! I do not have the time or energy to coddle you. I need colleagues who can execute a project, not interns looking for a learning experience or coasting by on a resume builder!"

Lily was rendered completely speechless. Her face drained of color as she swallowed her fury and apologized once more. "I'm sorry, Professor Banks. My expertise lies in development; writing proposals is admittedly a weak point for me. I will keep trying."

Harrison let out a heavy sigh, his tone softening slightly. "Forget it. Everyone has different strengths. The core of this is research and development anyway. Since that is your area of expertise, I expect you to give it everything you have during the R&D phase. Do not disappoint me again."

Hearing Harrison's concession, Lily let out a quiet breath of relief.

Thank god he hadn't stripped her of the team lead title in front of everyone.

As long as she remained the lead, she would still have a chance to change his mind—and everyone else's—once the actual development began!
