She owed him far too much; any way she could show her gratitude was better than nothing.
Silas brought out a pair of fluffy women's slippers. He had prepared them for the future mistress of the house—which was to say, Summer.
They were exactly Summer's size, from her favorite brand, and perfectly suited to her taste.
But he couldn't admit that. Yet, he was also afraid Summer would overthink it and assume there was another woman in his life.
So, he quickly explained, "They're brand new. Sometimes my sister, Sera, comes over, so I got them for her. She's a bit high-maintenance and refuses to wear slippers more than once."
If Sera had been there, she would have absolutely cornered Silas and demanded: Have you no shame? How dare you slander your own flesh and blood like that!
Silas's house was immaculately clean, though it was now scattered with quite a few children's supplies and toys.
Silas led Summer to Leo's room. "He's asleep. If you're worried about waking him up, you can use the guest bathroom to wash up."
Silas then showed her the guest room, which, despite being for guests, was fully stocked with premium toiletries.
Next, Silas fetched a set of pajamas for her, along with several high-end women's skincare products.
Summer asked, "Are these your sister's too?"
Silas nodded without a hint of guilt. "I brought you entirely new sets. She's never used any of these."
After washing up, Summer noticed the living room lights were still on.
Silas had also just finished washing up. Dressed in a bathrobe with wet hair dripping onto his shoulders, he threw his head back to take a long drink of water, his Adam's apple bobbing sharply as he swallowed.
Summer quickly averted her eyes.
"Would you like some water?"
Summer let out a soft "mm-hmm," and Silas poured her a glass of warm water. "My sister is about the same size as you, and she leaves a lot of unworn clothes here. I brought a set for you."
A set of clothes lay on the sofa. There was no visible brand, indicating they were custom-made. The fabric felt incredibly luxurious to the touch, and the letter "Sinclair" was elegantly embroidered on the garments.
"Thank you." Summer was deeply grateful for how thoughtfully Silas took care of everything.
"Well then, get some rest. Good night."
Afraid of making Summer feel awkward, Silas proactively initiated the goodnight.
Summer smiled and replied, "Good night."
Returning to the master bedroom, Silas opened his diary and documented the events of the evening: Summer finally came home with me. She wore the fluffy slippers I bought for her; they looked beautiful on her feet.
She was also wearing the pajamas I chose for her and used the skincare products I bought. She smelled amazing. I didn't dare get too close, though I wanted nothing more than to hold her and kiss her.
When she said goodnight to me, the way her eyes curved into crescents made me want to kiss her even more.
That shower I just took was a complete waste. I have to go take another one.
The next day.
Summer woke up early, planning to make a nice breakfast to thank Silas and surprise Leo in the process.
But she never expected someone to be up even earlier.
Silas was already bustling about in the kitchen.
"Why are you up so early?" Silas looked at her in surprise. "Not used to the bed?"
Seeing Silas wearing an apron and holding a spatula, Summer felt too embarrassed to admit she had intended to cook breakfast.
