Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 387

Silas smiled. "Since Director Vance has spoken, I will respectfully oblige."

Ten minutes later, Xavier asked slowly, "Mr. Sinclair, have you eaten well? When exactly are you going to drink your three penalty glasses? Everyone is still waiting."

Everyone: "..."

Silas's assistant tried to speak up but was stopped by a gesture from Silas. Xavier was targeting him directly.

If the assistant stepped in, he would inevitably be subjected to Xavier's mockery.

Silas picked up his glass and downed it cleanly. It wasn't that he feared Xavier, but he had to show respect to Director Vance.

Director Vance laughed and smoothed things over, putting the tension to rest.

After a few rounds of drinks, everyone started toasting each other.

Xavier had been in a foul mood lately, so he accepted every drink offered to him. However, every single time, he dragged Silas into it.

Twirling his wine glass, Xavier raised an eyebrow at Silas sitting across from him. "You're toasting me but not Mr. Sinclair. Aren't you worried Mr. Sinclair will be upset?"

The person toasting: "..."

Silas quirked an eyebrow. "You must be joking, Mr. Sterling. I'm not that petty. Could it be that you don't actually want to drink, and you're just using me as an excuse?"

Xavier nodded shamelessly. "Yes, if Mr. Sinclair drinks, I'll drink. It all depends on whether Mr. Sinclair wants to show respect to Mr. Crawford."

The toasting Mr. Crawford: "..."

Silas glanced at old Mr. Crawford, a middle-aged man in his fifties who was currently smiling awkwardly.

Everyone in this private room was an absolute titan in their respective fields. They were powerful, wealthy men accustomed to being worshipped by outsiders.

Yet right now, Mr. Crawford was forced to play the submissive fool in front of Xavier.

Silas thought about the core business of Mr. Crawford's company, so he raised his glass and smiled warmly at him. "If Mr. Sterling insists on putting it that way, I'm naturally more than happy to show my respect to Mr. Crawford."

Mr. Crawford looked at Silas with immense gratitude.

Even though Silas drank the wine, Xavier still felt deeply dissatisfied and agitated inside.

When the business banquet ended, both Xavier and Silas had had too much to drink.

Xavier's stomach started aching again. He forcefully endured it, his expression growing increasingly cold and stern. Outsiders couldn't notice a thing; they merely thought he was as cold and unapproachable as snow on a mountain peak.

But the black dress shirt beneath his suit was almost completely soaked in cold sweat. His stomach clamped in continuous spasms, and the pain seemed to radiate all the way to his head.

Xavier's complexion grew increasingly pale, his brows tightly knitted.

Right at that moment, he heard Leo's voice.

"Dad!"

Xavier's harsh features softened slightly. He turned around, only to see Leo steering his wheelchair straight toward Silas.
