But Leo was his biological son! And yet, while he was suffering, the only person Leo cared about was his mortal enemy.
A suffocating wave of despair spread from his chest. Pressing a hand to his stomach and assuming it was just his ulcer acting up, Xavier darkened his expression and turned to leave.
But the very next second, he stumbled and collapsed without warning.
"Boss!" Paige Brooks's voice completely pitched upward in terror.
Fortunately, the bodyguards caught him just in time, or he would have definitely smashed his nose and started bleeding.
Everyone was startled by the scene. Led by Director Vance, the crowd quickly gathered around to check on him.
Only Silas remained perfectly still. Leo didn't move either; they both just watched with utter, detached indifference, acting as though it had nothing to do with them.
Xavier took rapid breaths, furrowed his brows, and spoke in a low, hoarse voice. "I'm fine."
Paige and the bodyguards helped Xavier back to his feet. Just then, Summer returned holding a cup of hangover tea.
Paige called out to Summer, "Ms. Vance, can you sell that cup of hangover tea to me?"
Even though hangover tea couldn't genuinely sober someone up, it could at least make Xavier feel a bit better and ease his discomfort.
Before Summer could even reply, Leo spoke up. "No! This is for my dad. My dad isn't feeling well either, he needs to drink it."
Xavier had fully expected Summer to say no, but he had never imagined the first person to jump out and oppose it would be Leo.
He stared at Leo in utter disbelief.
He had literally just collapsed right in front of him, and Leo remained completely indifferent!
He was even vehemently defending his mortal enemy!
He showed absolutely no concern for him, not even bothering to spare him a glance.
Was he even his father anymore?!
Xavier felt a surge of betrayal, abandonment, and agonizing heartache. He suddenly felt that ordering the bodyguards to block the ancestral hall had been incredibly stupid.
Summer gave Paige an apologetic nod. "Sorry, I made this for my husband. It's not for sale!"
Suddenly, Silas felt a tinge of gratitude toward Xavier. He was thankful for his relentless targeting and hostility earlier.
If it hadn't been for him, Silas would have had to wait a very, very long time before getting to drink honey lemon tea personally mixed by Summer.
He also would have had to wait a very, very long time to hear Summer refer to him as her husband.
Silas's eyes crinkled with unconcealed joy. He took the hangover tea, his voice impossibly tender and affectionate.
"Thank you, darling."
Leo smiled brightly, his dark eyes sparkling.
He felt like he was on the verge of finally getting a new dad.
As for his old dad, Leo glanced over, his expression instantly shifting into cold detachment.
He didn't want him anymore.
Leo's facial features actually strongly resembled Xavier's; he was practically a miniature version of him.
Because of that, his cold, ruthlessly indifferent expression looked exactly like Xavier's, and it cut incredibly deep.
Xavier found the sight piercing. His stomach throbbed, but his chest hurt even more. He had protected Leo so fiercely, hired the best doctors for him, and absolutely refused to let the old man strike him from the registry.
And yet, how did Leo repay him?
