Summer arched a brow. "Are you threatening me?"

"Summer!" Zelda finally lost her temper, burning with rage. "If you refuse, the Sterlings have ways to make you agree."

Watching Summer's stubborn refusal, Zelda thought of Carlson Sterling's instructions. If she failed, the old man would definitely reprimand her.

Furious but unwilling to leave empty-handed, Zelda decided to stay just to spite Summer.

Regaining her elegant posture as a wealthy matriarch, Zelda sat down to drink the coffee brought in by Lilith's new assistant.

Summer picked up her phone and dialed a number. "Xander, your mother is throwing a tantrum in my office. Please come and collect her."

Zelda slammed her coffee cup onto the table. "Summer! Who are you calling a tantrum-throwing child?!"

Summer spoke into the receiver. "Did you hear that?"

Xander fell silent for two seconds. "I apologize. I'll be right there."

By the time Xander arrived, Zelda had actually already left. Summer had texted him to say he didn't need to come anymore.

But Xander showed up anyway, bringing a bouquet of sunflowers and melon-flavored pastries as a peace offering.

His eyes were full of apology. "I'm sorry on my mother's behalf."

Summer took the flowers. "Leo actually likes you quite a bit. One of the reasons I didn't agree on the spot was your family. They are too difficult to deal with."

Xander's gaze turned somber. "I apologize. I didn't handle it well. I promise there won't be a next time."

Summer nodded. "Thank you for the flowers."
