He blamed Xavier for all of his misfortunes, believing the man had destroyed his family.
Crushed by the weight of life, he was blinded by hatred and acted impulsively.
When Summer heard the ruling, she wasn't surprised and simply went back to her own work.
You play with fire, you get burned. Lilith had dodged a bullet this time, but she couldn't outrun karma forever.
Her continuous strokes of luck would only feed the monster inside her, making her increasingly reckless.
That afternoon, Summer took her secretary to Phoenix Innovations to sign a contract.
As she arrived, she happened to see CEO Falcone walking Lilith and Xavier out.
A flicker of surprise crossed Summer's eyes. Had those two made up?
Lilith smiled in greeting, her eyes brimming with triumph. "What a coincidence, Director Vance. Are you here for the EP project?"
Summer didn't answer right away, smiling back as she waited for the punchline.
A flash of vindictive pleasure danced in Lilith's eyes. "Sorry to break it to you, Director Vance, but you're too late. CEO Falcone and I have already signed the contract."
Summer glanced at the silent Xavier, immediately grasping the situation. She scoffed internally: A leopard truly never changes its spots.
Xavier just couldn't resist Lilith's charms.
Slightly annoyed, Summer turned to Felicity Falcone. "If you had told me sooner, CEO Falcone, I wouldn't have wasted a trip."
Summer and Felicity had gone through multiple rounds of negotiations and countless revisions.
Her team had worked overtime to perfect the proposal. Now that everything was finalized, Felicity had turned around and signed with Lilith instead.
Felicity hadn't even given her a heads-up, so it was only natural Summer felt angry.
Felicity felt just as helpless. Of course, she preferred working with Summer. She had already brushed off Lilith's visits multiple times.
Who would have thought Lilith would be so relentless, this time bringing Xavier along for leverage?
Felicity had several major collaborative projects with the Sterling Group in her hands, and she couldn't afford a single misstep.
"I'm so sorry, Director Vance. I just didn't have time to notify you," Felicity apologized.
Lilith smiled sweetly. "Before a contract is signed, everyone has a chance. It was just fair competition, Director Vance. There's no need to take it out on CEO Falcone."
"Taking your frustration out on others only highlights your incompetence. CEO Falcone should be glad she didn't partner with you."
Felicity was speechless. She hadn't thought that at all—please don't drag her down!
Summer offered a bright smile. "To think you cheated on your man and he still trails after you—your skills truly are top-tier, Manager Sutton. I pale in comparison."
Felicity was stunned.
Summer had zeroed right in on the sorest spot. Lilith's smile vanished instantly. "Summer Vance!" she hissed.
Summer's grin widened. "Why that expression? I was complimenting you! When it comes to training men like lapdogs, you are the absolute master."
Panicked, Lilith looked at Xavier. "Xavier, don't listen to her nonsense."
Hands in his pockets, Xavier glared at Summer with a chilling, predatory gaze. "Do you have a death wish, Summer?"
