Substitute Wife, Genius CEO novel Chapter 529

As Xavier stepped out of Lilith's ward, a suspicious-looking figure flagged him down.

Paige Brooks poked his head out from behind the fire stairwell door, glancing left and right before waving at Xavier.

"Mr. Sterling, over here."

Xavier stepped into the stairwell.

Paige led him to his own ward and locked the door securely.

Then, he pulled out a worn, aged photo album from the nightstand.

"This is Summer's family album."

The day Dexter Whitmore sent men to beat up Lilith, Paige had watched Lilith refuse to unlock the car doors while he was being beaten to a pulp.

At that moment, Paige's loyalty had completely shattered.

He had planned to go to Lilith and quit, but he accidentally overheard her talking.

So, he stayed sharp and started secretly watching her every move.

He had dug this very photo album out of the trash.

After looking at the photos inside, Paige realized he had been completely blind all these years.

The real Summer was right in front of him, and he hadn't even recognized her.

Worse, he had repeatedly hurt Summer all for Lilith's sake.

He felt like an absolute bastard.

Xavier wasn't even listening to a word Paige was saying. He flipped through the album page by page, his tears falling in heavy drops.

His remorse was easily equal to Paige's.

He had sworn to protect her, but what had he actually done?

Nothing but endless lies and unrelenting pain.

The little girl in the photos had a radiant complexion, her eyes curving into bright crescents when she smiled, a hint of playful mischief hidden in her luminous gaze.

Xavier gently traced the little girl's face with his trembling fingers, his heart aching so profoundly he could barely breathe.

"Mr. Sterling, I'm going to stay by Lilith's side just in case she tries to hurt Summer again."
