How was she standing right here?
And her face—he distinctly remembered Leila being covered in horrific keloid scars, but the woman before him had a flawless, radiant complexion.
A sudden realization hit Xavier. He remembered Dr. Joseph in the States, the specialist he had sought out to perform reconstructive surgery on Lydia.
He had bumped into Summer at that very hospital!
So Summer hadn't been there to sabotage Lydia's surgery out of spite toward Lilith.
She had been there for Leila!
No wonder Lydia had lost her mind, screaming that she had seen Leila at the clinic!
It really had been her all along.
Thank God, she was still alive.
Xavier immediately gave Leila a respectful nod. "It's a pleasure to meet you, ma'am. I'm Xavier, Pax's biological father."
Leila looked at him with icy detachment. "Save the introductions. I have zero interest in my daughter's scumbag ex-husband."
Given her status as an elder and their public setting at the police station, Xavier couldn't exactly argue. Besides, she wasn't wrong.
He stood off to the side, his face pale and drawn.
He knew he was the last person anyone there wanted to see, but he simply couldn't bring himself to leave. He just wanted to stay by Summer's side.
Just then, Silas arrived at the precinct.
A flicker of surprise crossed his eyes when he spotted Xavier, wondering what he was doing there.
But his attention quickly shifted to Summer.
He closed the distance between them in long strides, letting out a heavy breath of relief when he saw she was unharmed.
He then turned to Leila with a polite and respectful greeting. "Are you both alright, ma'am?"
Leila offered him a warm smile. "We're perfectly fine, Silas. What are you doing here? Shouldn't you be resting at the hospital?"
Her tone was incredibly gentle, laced with the affectionate indulgence a mother reserves for her favorite future son-in-law.
