After seeing Summer and the others off, Silas didn't immediately return to the hospital. He and Xavier arrived at the police station one after the other to personally look into Summer's case.
Chief Logan learned that both men had come to ask about the investigation.
He personally received them to explain the situation.
When Xavier learned that Summer had been set up and sold to human traffickers by her own biological father and his mistress, a heavy silence fell over him.
He trembled with rage, the blood draining from his face as a suffocating wave of despair crashed over him.
His heart ached even more for the little girl from St. Jude's Children's Home, and he loathed himself with a burning intensity.
He had sworn to protect Summer, yet he had unknowingly aided her abusers, actively helping the very people who sought to destroy her.
He had even married Lilith, the woman who had stolen her identity.
Let alone Summer, he couldn't even forgive himself.
In that moment, Xavier was ready to commit murder.
Bennett, Lydia, and Lilith!
Xavier ground his teeth so hard his jaw ached, a vein pulsing at his temple. "Did Bennett confess?"
Chief Logan shook his head. "He confessed at Rosewood Memorial Park, but because of the methods Ms. Vance and her team used, it can't be presented as direct evidence in court."
"He likely knows that, so he's keeping his mouth shut. He's already requested a lawyer."
"What about the other suspect, Lydia?" Silas asked.
Chief Logan sighed. "Lydia has a history of mental illness, making it incredibly difficult to convict her. Plus, since the case happened so many years ago, finding physical evidence is going to be nearly impossible."
"What if we find the traffickers from back then?" Silas pressed.
