Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 196

Chapter 196

Once again, his arms went around me, and he pulled me closer. He was warmer now, and after exerting myself so much, I couldn’t keep tny eyes open anymore. Exhaustion finally caught up to me and dragged me under.

Grayson’s POV

In and out of consciousness, I struggled to keep track of things, of time. I caught moments in flashes

Lily pulling me from the water. Dragging me to a cave. At one point, we were naked, but I was too tired to be aware, too cold to be able to react. My back hurt, but then it didn’t as much. And now, Lily curled up against my side.

My dreams were just as fragmented.

A memory.

As a child, I was wandering the forest and I fell from a tall rock. It wasn’t totally a cliff, not like this cliff had been But for a child, it had been enough to hurt, to knock me out. I woke up to the sound of a soft voice. A little girl, checking my wounds, telling me it would all be okay. That she was here now and wasn’t going to leave me.

Always, I had thought that girl was Odette. It was how she had saved me, what she had always taken credit for.

Yet… now… that girl looked different. Had she always looked like this? Had I only convinced myself that Odette had been the one to save me?

Because the girl I could see now, in my memory, in my dream, looked like a young Lillian.

“Everything will be okay,” she whispered. “I won’t leave you. I’ll protect you until we are both safe.”

I blinked my eyes open, looking up through the dark to the rocky roof of the cave. I tried to move my arms but I felt sluggish. A familiar weight was holding down one arm, a comforting body pressed against my side. I glanced, and as my eyes adjusted to the dark, I recognized Lillian beside me.

I looked her over. She seemed unharmed, over than a few scrapes and bruises that seemed to be slowly healing. No broken bones. No lacerations. Good. That meant the only blood I smelled in the air was my own.

I could handle that. My back gave a dull ache now, which was annoying and painful but manageable.

She opened her eyes then, and looked up at my face. “Am I dreaming?” she asked.

“Not unless I am too,” I said.

She sat up. “You’re awake.” Relief was palpable in her voice. “How are you feeling?”

“Alright,” he said. “How are you? Did Calvin hurt you?”

“How can you ask about me at a time like this?”
