Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 211

Chapter 211

Lillian’s POV

“I don’t understand,” I said, shock creeping into my body, making me cold. I felt away from myself, like I was experiencing everything from the other side of a tunnel. “How could this have happened? Prince Reginald stabilized him, and the flower -”

“I’m sorry, Luna Princess,” the doctor said, lowering his head.

“The flower wasn’t ready in time?”

“It was…”

“Then it didn’t work?” My heart sunk. All that effort, meaningless in the end.

The doctor glanced away from me. He took a breath, then spoke, his voice clinical, with no emotion. “We received word to prioritize another patient who had come in with poisoning. The flower was used to stabilize her instead.’”

A crushing weight fell on my chest. “But I was the one who found that flower. Grayson and I risked our lives for it, to bring it back just for Ronan. Why would you use it on someone else?”

“Prince Grayson is the one who told us to prioritize her,” the doctor said.

“Her… Her who?”

“Odette was brought in with a serious case of poisoning. The flower was used to save her life.” The doctor finally looked up at me, and I could see the sympathy in his gaze that he tried to hide behind a cool expression. “You are a hero for finding that flower.”

I didn’t want anyone to die, not even Odette, who I held little warmth for. But… “I had brought that flower back specifically for my brother. It could have saved his life. Now my brother… he’s…”

“I’m sorry.” The doctor hung his head again.

I wanted to explode at him, but it really wasn’t his fault. If Grayson had given that order, the doctor would have been duty-bound to follow it.

Could Grayson really tell them to prioritize Odette over Ronan?

I was going to be sick. My entire body ached, the grief pushing through my entire system, out through my arteries, in through my veins. It encompassed every part of me, becoming me, taking over my entire system.

In my mind, my wolf howled, surging forward to the front of my mind. That howl mixed with my wail of grief, eventually overtaking it. One moment I was standing there as human, but then I blinked. In the next moment, I was a wolf, my cry now a howl loud enough for the doctor to cover his ears.

I clawed at my thoughts, a prisoner of my mind as my wolf took over. Maybe I didn’t fight as hard as I should have. Maybe I wanted my wolf to win. I wanted the destruction. My brother was taken from me by the cruelty of the world. Now, my wolf would avenge him.

My wolf wasn’t the largest, but confined in this small hospital room, the nurses and doctors were pushed out of the way, trying to hide from my rage.

I didn’t want to hurt anyone, but everything hurt. My wolf only knew to lash out.

Not here, I urged her and pushed her toward the door. We left my brother’s room. His body was there, but his soul was gone. He wasn’t really there anymore.

He was somewhere I couldn’t follow.

was so young. Too young. Gods! Why was this happening?!

My wolf raced down the hallway. I urged her toward the exit, but she was just too big, too frantic. We collided into nurses and other hospital staff, sending them into the walls. I felt sorry, but it only added to my overwhelming grief. It only made things worse, made my wolf more powerful.

Finally, we turned a corner, burst through a pair of double doors and there, the exit.

We rushed forward, but screeched to a stop when someone stepped into our path. My wolf growled, but through her eyes, I recognized Teacher. He was holding a needle.

“I’m sorry for your loss, Lillian. But I cannot allow you to rampage and hurt people. When you recover your mind, you would never forgive yourself.”

My wolf growled, seeing Teacher as an enemy blocking her way, her freedom. I tried to hold her back, but her wraith was beyond my weakened control. I was too grief-stricken to do much but watch.

My wolf pounced forward, teeth exposed, ready to chomp, but Teacher moved so quickly, my wolf couldn’t even perceive him.
