Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 257

Chapter 257

Lillian’s POV

Grayson didn’t have an answer for me, and he watched me walk away. That was two days ago now. Finally, it was the weekend, and with the children off from their tutoring, I took them out into the lawn behind the gardens to run around and get some sunshine. The palace at the Lycan kingdom was much more open and airy than the one here. I worried the kids were getting stir-crazy and weren’t getting enough fresh air.

Things were still a bit awkward between Madison and me, but that ended pretty quickly today when we went outside and she came over and hugged me. There was no explanation, no apology. Just a hug, but in that hug, everything felt okay again.

“I love you, Mommy,” she said.

Biting back my tears, I held her tightly. “I love you, too, honey.”

Then I let her go, and she returned to playing. A piece of my heart healed.

A while later, the kids must have seen Grayson walking through the gardens, as I had. They immediately came

over to me.

“Can Grayson play with us, Mommy?” Alex asked.

“We haven’t seen him in forever!” Madison insisted, even though he had walked them to school only a couple of days ago.

“Can we at least talk to him?” Alex asked.

“I’m sure he’s very busy,” I said.

“Who’s busy?” Grayson asked, walking closer. When he saw the kids, he smiled gently. “I thought I heard the sound of children laughing.”

“Grayson!” Madison and Alex said and ran toward him. At once, he kneeled down to hug them.

I followed them, slower. Grayson glanced up at me, and then we both awkwardly looked away from one another. We hadn’t talked since the kiss, and truthfully, I had been avoiding him. Whenever we were alone together, my feelings became too tangled. It was difficult to wade through it all.

“It’s good to see you, Lily,” Grayson said, standing again. The kids backed off a step, looking between us.

“Yes,” I said, and that was all I said.

An awkward tension hung in the air. If the kids wanted to spend time with him, I wouldn’t say no. But that didn’t mean I wanted to talk to him, or would know what to say.

The silence went on, and the kids frowned. Even they must have been able to sense it.

Madison’s POV

Something was going on between Mom and Grayson. I might be just a kid but I’m not stupid. They weren’t even looking at each other, and when they talked, they were saying the kind of polite things parents said to each other that didn’t actually mean anything.

They did that a lot. It was very confusing and pretty annoying.

I looked at Alex and he looked at me. From his face, I knew he felt the same way I did.

We’d talked about Mom and Grayson before. There was something up with them. They’d known each other from hafore, and we thought they liked each other. But they were doing that thing like in the movies I’ve watched, where the princess doesn’t admit to liking the prince even though she clearly does.

Why did adults have to make everything so difficult? Why couldn’t they just say I like you and smooch like in the movies? Then we could all be a big happy family.

Alex and I liked Grayson. We wanted him around. We just had to get Mom in on the idea.

“I have an idea!” I said at once.

Alex gave me a curious look, but then nodded, “Me too!”

Mom and Grayson both looked at me, and they seemed kind of happy for the distraction.

“What is it, honey?” Mom asked.

“Why don’t we play hide and seek! Alex and I will hide in the gardens and you and Grayson can find us.

“No cheating though!” Alex insisted. “No werewolf senses! You just have to use your eyes only.”

“Yeah!” I agreed.

“I don’t know if…” Grayson hesitated.
