Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 262

Chapter 262

Grayson looked at Alex and me and then up at Mom.

“I don’t like being out here,” I said. “She saved me. I think she’s… okay…”

Mom nodded. Then Grayson nodded too.

Lillian’s POV

By the time we reached Ophelia’s cabin, Madison had fallen asleep out of sheer exhaustion. Alex was still sleeping off the drugs, but his vitals seemed normal. He was alright. Ophelia had a spare bedroom, and we tucked the kids in there for now, but kept the door open so we could hear them if they stirred.

Ophelia made coffee and the three of us – her, Grayson, and me – gathered in the kitchen, holding our cups.

My heart was still racing fast. I would never get over the abject fear of almost losing my children. Grayson stood close to me, my lighthouse in the storm of my fear. HI steadiness was the only reason I had yet to break down.

Across from us, Ophelia sipped at her coffee. Her cottage here was quaint and unsuspecting, with only two bedrooms and an open concept kitchen living room. It was miles better than a jail cell.

I still hadn’t thanked her for what she’d done, and as the quiet lingered, I thought I had better.

“Thank you,” I said. “If you hadn’t helped… If we had gotten there too late…”

“My sister has gone too far this time,” Ophelia said. “Hurting children is beyond the pale. Besides…” She huffed. ” I’m on a path of redemption. That was part of the promise I made when I was saved from the dungeon.”

Grayson stared at her coolly. “Many people thought you were killed.”

“They were supposed to think that,” she said. “That way they wouldn’t follow me.”

“Who saved you?” I asked. “Who did you make that promise to?”

She looked at me, locking eyes with me, and I felt like I already knew the answer, deep in my heart, even before she opened her mouth to answer.
