Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 276

Chapter 275

Lillian’s POV

“No,” I said. “I came here to talk to you.”

“Need to clear your conscience?” Gamma asked. “It’s your fault that I’m in this place. Or you, Prince Grayson?”

Grayson crossed his arms and said nothing.

“Just here to observe, then,” Gamma said.

“It is no one’s fault but your own that you are in here,” I told him. “You made your choices. You are now suffering the consequences of those choices.”

“The only thing I suffer is having an ungrateful daughter. With your connections, you could have me out of here

tomorrow.”

“You are responsible for Ronan’s death,” I said.

He scoffed. “Ronan was unimportant. HE held no power. He was simply a pawn to be used.”

“He was a boy with a future that you stole away. He had his whole life ahead of him and -”

“You act like I pulled the trigger or smothered him with a pillow. I did no such thing.”

“You poisoned him.”

“And you had ample opportunity to cure him of it,” Gamma said. “His death is not on me. I should not be held responsible for it.”

This was getting me nowhere. With his victim complex, he viewed the world through a special lens, unable to tell when he was at fault. There was always someone else to blame.

Realizing this, I stopped trying to convince him. He didn’t need to accept guilt for Ronan, or for treason against the crown, or anything else. He was still going to pay for his crimes soon enough.

I switched gears.

“I didn’t come here for this,” I said. “I came here so that you might clear your conscience.”

“My conscience is perfectly clear.”

I ignored him, saying, “Did you ever love me? Even as a child? You were my father, you were supposed to love and protect me, but you were always cold and distant. Did I ever matter to you at all?”

He looked at me, and the coldness in his gaze told me everything I needed to know even before the words did.” Why would I? Ungrateful child. Vicious and disobedient. You never listened, always acted out. Your sister was much more obedient and deserving.”

This was something that he did, pitting my sister and I against each other. For many years, this tactic of his had worked in his favor. My sister was ever jealous of me, always tried to outdo me. After she and Calvin had betrayed me, I might have even hated her.

Now, I just felt sorry. I had heard no news of her these past five years. Despite our past, I hoped she was recovering from the trauma with Calvin and doing well.

“What about Mom?” I asked.

“What about her?” he snapped in reply.

Qid you ever love her?”

For a flicker of a moment, a sort of softness came over his gaze. He immediately looked younger, more handsome, and in that moment, I saw the kind of inan that my mom might have fallen in love with. Maybe he hadn’t always been the way he is now. Maybe, at one point, he had even been kind and gentle.

A half-second later and the softness chilled to ice. I shivered at the change, suddenly cold all the way down to my

bones.

“I never should have married her,” he said. “She was always a total failure. A true nobody with no ambition beyond family and home. She couldn’t see the world in the correct way, like I do.” He sighed. “When she stopped being useful, she had to go.”
