Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 296

Chapter 296

When they were gone, Josie closed her eyes, relief crossing her face.

“I don’t want to marry that man,” she said.

“Your mother doesn’t seem happy about it either,” I said. Even though it had been her idea, the Queen seemed just as disgusted with the bears as the rest of us were.

To try for an alliance, was she really willing to sacrifice her only daughter?

I wasn’t sure.

“I have to do it, though, don’t I?” Josie whispered, her voice wavering. “For the sake of werewolves everywhere”

“We don’t know that yet,” I said.

Until I had proof that these bears were actually ambassadors from the Bear King, and carried the goodwill of a peace agreement, I wasn’t going to allow Josie to go anywhere with them.

If Grayson were here, he’d reject that idea too. In his absence, it fell to me.

I would keep Josie safe like she was my own sister. No, more than. A dear friend.

Because she was.

Odette’s POV

When the Queen and the bears came into the room, I hopped down from where I’d been perched on the back of the couch. If this had involved anyone but the Queen, I would have grumbled that it took them long enough. Because it was the Queen, I kept my mouth shut.

She had the power to make our break my future. Especially with Grayson out of the picture, I needed to keep a good relationship with her.

So I pulled on my brightest smile as I gestured toward the unconscious Grayson collapsed on the floor.

“Ta-daa!” I said.

The Queen glowered at me and I cowered, feeling like I had done something wrong.

“What’s this?” said the Bear Ambassador. I believed I heard his name was Charles.

“I have a different offering for you,” the Queen said. “My daughter is no longer on the table.”

“You like wasting my time,” Charles grumbled.
