Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 315

Chapter 315

Lillian’s POV

After Ivory left to see to dinner, Grayson and I sat on a nearby bench and watched the kids play. He was deep in thought for a long moment, and I waited, using the silence to process for myself all the things that Ivory said and what to do now.

Everything plan I could come up with was simply more dangerous than the last.

Grayson went straight to the point. “I need to go to the palace and confront the Queen. I’ll demand Prime Beta’s release, and the release of others.”

“She won’t listen to you,” I said. “She’s already wearing your father’s crown.”

“The people need to see that I’m alive,” Grayson said.

“She’ll kill you,” I said. “She already tried once, in giving you over to the bears. If you show up on her doorstep, I hate to think what she might do. She has no sense of honor.”

“She could try to kill me, but she will not succeed.”

I frowned deeply, my worry washing over me like a wave, threatening to pull me out into a sea of despair. I had only just watched Grayson fight in one battle for his life. How was I already supposed to watch him face another?

“You are still recovering from your last fight,” I said.

He looked over at me, and I lifted my gaze to meet his. “You are worried for me,” he said.

“Very,” I replied. “She’s not going to play fair. You are strong, but against a whole palace full of guards… I just don’t know, Grayson. Is that really the best course? So much happens behind the palace walls that the rest of the world doesn’t know about. If you want the people to know you are alive, and to have their backing, maybe going straight to the Queen isn’t the right choice.”

Grayson nodded, even as his hands clenched into fists. “I know you are right, but it frustrates me that she has arrested so many of my supporters. Prime Beta has served me loyally for a decade, even placing his loyalty to me over that of his family. To not march straight over there feels like a betrayal of him.”

“He would not want you to be captured,” I said. “Or worse.”

Grayson went quiet again. I did too. We both watched the children for a moment.

“We need to know what’s going on inside of that palace,” Grayson said.

“We can ask Ivory to contact the servants,” I said.

“That information would be valuable, but that’s not what I had in mind,” Grayson said.

I looked at him.

“I want to talk to my sister,” Grayson said.

I knew Grayson had many secret contacts that could delivered messages inside of the palace, people who were fiercely loyal and would not give him or his location away, but I still worried. Being an enemy of the crown made everything so much more dangerous. Even standing too near the windows felt like an unnecessary risk.

I tried not to allow my anxiety to show in front of the children during dinner and then after, when I joined them in their playtime. Grayson joined us too, and he appeared to be performing the same as I was, keeping on a happy

face for the children.

Mommy,” Alex asked after a while. “Can we go to get ice cream?”

“Not tonight,” I said.

“What about tomorrow?”

“Not tomorrow either.”

He and Madison looked at each other.

“We are tired of being here,” Madison said. “Can we go outside and play?”

“No,” I said, too quickly.

“Why not?” Alex asked.

“Yeah, why not?” Madison added.

“We just have to stay inside for a little while,” I said, trying to avoid the question.

“But, why?” Alex asked.

I didn’t want to tell them about the danger they were in. We didn’t need to all carry that burden. All I ever wanted was for the children to live happy lives away from the darkness of the royal life. So long as they were in this house, they were safe, even if it made them prisoners.
