Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 343

Chapter 343

Grayson’s POV

I didn’t know how it could be possible. Lillian had been beside me. I had been holding her hand. And then, like she had turned to dust, she vanished. The necklace in my step-mother’s hand gave an eerie glow, and my wolf threw himself against the walls of my mind, begging to be released, to be able to attack the Queen.

It shouldn’t have been possible, but I knew, like Lone Archer had been trapped in the necklace Lillian had broken, Lillian was now trapped in the necklace my stepmother held..

My step-mother smirked, so cocksure, like she had won anything here.

The look made it more difficult to hold my wolf back, and as I stood there, growling, I felt my fangs start to extend and my spine elongate, my body stuck at the beginning of the shift in a monstrous, gruesome form.

“Let. Her. Go,” I growled, my vocal chords barely human anymore. I sounded like an enraged animal.

“I will,” the Queen said, tilting her head ever so slightly, her lips twitching upright in wicked amusement. ” If you back off and allow me to take my place on the throne.”

Worried kept me still, even as fury had me shaking. My hands formed claws.

My wolf howled in my mind. She cannot steal the throne if she is dead.

I countered, If we kill her, she will take the secret of the necklace with her. We can’t risk Lily being trapped

forever.

My growl deepened, deadly.

“Make your choice,” the Queen said. “The crown, or the woman you love. You cannot have both.”

Lily.

Gods, I wanted to choose Lily and have her back, but to do so would mean losing everything we were fighting for. We’d have to live on the run, and my step-mother would likely kill us anyway.

And Lily… she would not want me to sacrifice the kingdom for her. If my step-mother were to be crowned, this kingdom, these people, would fall even farther into ruin. I couldn’t allow that to happen.

Forgive me… my heart whispered, but I already knew Lily would. She’d only not forgive me if I squandered

this chance.

Lillian was strong. If Lone Archer had been able to break free from the prison necklace he had been trapped inside of, then Lily would be able to as well. I had to believe that. There wasn’t any other way.

I’ll kill her… my wolf growled, and I was done fighting to stop him.

“There is no choice,” I snarled, as I allowed my wolf to overtake me.

The Queen’s eyes went wide with fear. “Stop him!” she cried out.

Her guards moved at once, stepping in the way, attempting to block my path. In full wolf form now, I clawed at them, shoving them aside. They flew across the room and slammed into the far walls.

I had no sympathy. They had been given fair warning of what I was going to do. They had picked their side, choosing my step-mother, even after what she had done, even after she’s been exposed like this.

They stood in the way of my crown, and the prison that held the love of my life. If they could be so foolish, they deserved what was coming to them.

Soon, all of the guards had been defeated, thrown to various parts of the room, some whole, others in pieces. With no one left to protect the Queen, she stumbled backwards, nearly tripping over her throne as she moved to place it between the two of us, using it as a shield.

As I neared, I slashed my claws across the chair, and it split in half, falling apart, revealing the cowering Queen still clutching the necklace cage.

Even with certain death facing her, she looked at me with hate and disgust. She did this to herself. Couldn’t she see that? This end was a result of her actions.

Growling, I stepped forward, ready for what must be done.

“Grayson, wait!” Josephine called, rushing toward me. She stayed out of the way, off to the side, not coming between me and my target. But the ache and desperation in her voice gave me pause. “Please. Don’t kill her.”

My wolf chuffed.

“I know she’s a terrible person,” Josie said quickly. “I know she has done terrible things. But she is my mother, and I… Please. Put her in the dungeon. Throw away the key. But… don’t take my mom from me…”

I growled, loud and low, and my step-mother cowered farther, her body shaking with fear even with the hate in her eyes.

“Grayson…” Josephine whispered, heartbreak in her voice.

I stayed where I was for a moment, considering.

But I would never hurt Josephine.

Slowly, I shifted back to my human form. I held my hand out.

“Give me the necklace.”

My step-mother did, then my own guard stepped forward to take her into custody.

“You better pray we find a way to save Lily from this prison,” I told her.

She looked at me but said nothing.

Lillian’s POV

I sat on the bench in the flower garden for a long time. Or, at least, I thought it was. Time moved differently here. I had no sense of it. I could have sat for a minute or a day. Nothing seemed to matter.

It was frustrating. How had Lone Archer survived this? And how would I? He had been able to project himself outward, to see beyond the prison, but he was the strongest werewolf alive. I was his descendant but many times removed.

My chest ached. It was beautiful here, but lonely. A light breeze rustled the leaves and petals but that was the only sound. If I had to stay in here too long, I’d surely go mad. Maybe that was the point. Why had such a thing ever been created?

As I sat on the bench, my mood starting to sour, I suddenly stiffened when Theard a soft singing.

It was a voice I recognized but had not heard in a very, very long time.

I was alone here. I could feel the emptiness of this place. And yet…
