Surrogate for the Alpha Prince in a Coma novel Chapter 346

Chapter 346

Grayson’s POV

Returning to my room, I paced as I had every night since receiving the crown. My body was finally starting to wear down, and I knew exhaustion was imminent. I’d sleep tonight, whether I wanted to or not, and I

didn’t want to.

How could I rest while Lillian was trapped?

The necklace was placed at my bedside. I glared at it each time I came close.

I tried to continue pacing, to deny myself rest, to stay active. But too soon, my legs started to give out and my eyelids felt heavy. I moved to the bed and collapsed onto it, falling asleep before even hitting the

mattress.

In the next instant, I was standing in a garden surrounded by a dense midst. Knowing I had just been in my room a moment ago, I realized very quickly that this was a dream.

But what a strange place to dream of.

Sensing a presence, I knew I wasn’t alone. Immediately, I swiveled, ready to face who it was, lash out if

necessary.

I stopped, freezing all the way down to my heartbeat.

“Lillian?” I didn’t trust my own voice, my eyes, my heart that went from stilling to beating impossibly fast, like it was going to lunge from my chest at any moment.

“Grayson,” she said, her eyes wide. “How are you here? But… no. I remember. Lone Archer sometimes pulled me into his prison when I was sleeping. Have I done that to you?”

“This is a dream,” I confirmed.

“But I’m really me,” she said. “I’m here…”

She started to reach out, but then stopped herself like she was afraid she wouldn’t be able to touch me. I was afraid too, but I was more desperate to feel her touch than frightened I wouldn’t. So I walked to her, quickly closing the distance between us.

I wrapped my arms around her and kissed her.

Yes. We could touch. Her body was soft in my arms, her lips plush, opening as I licked across them.

I kissed her with the pent-up passion of a man who had been separated from his love for far more than a few days. Even though only a few moons had passed since she had been imprisoned, it had felt like forever.

Eventually, we had to come up for air, even in a dream. With regret, I pulled away. She reached up and cupped my face in her hands. Closing my eyes, I turned and placed a kiss to one of her palms.

“I will find a way to save you from this,” I promised.

“We’ll do it together,” she told me.

I opened my eyes again, searching her face. “Do you know a way to escape?”

“No, not yet,” she said. “But my mother is here. Well. Not my mother. But her living memory. I’ve been speaking with her. We’ve been bonding, and she believes that I can find the strength to escape, but I’m not sure… I…”

“Your… mother…?” I struggled to understand. Lillian’s mother had died long before I had met her. For her to be here, even in living memory, like billian was saying, seemed impossible.

“Yes, I…” Lillian seemed nervous for a moment “Would you like to meet her?”

“Yes,” I said at once. Whether her mother was a dream or living memory meant little difference. Clearly Lillian wanted me to meet some fragment of the mother she loved and lost, and I would be honored to. Lillian’s father had been a waste of space. Her mother had to be where Lillian had inherited all of her finer qualities. I wanted to see for myself.

“I don’t know how time works in here,” Lillian said. “So we should move quickly.”

She pulled back from my arms but offered her hand instead. I eagerly accepted it. Together, we walked through the garden to a small cottage that seemed to appear out of nowhere. It made no sense for it to be the place where it was. But Lillian kept moving like nothing was strange, so I did as well.

“Mother!” Lillian called.

Then, a woman appeared in the doorway. She was almost as beautiful as her daughter. Gentle, with kind eyes. She smiled at Lily, and then at me.

“You must be the one who stole my daughter’s heart,” she said.

“Mother, please,” Lillian said, even as her face reddened.

“I don’t mean to embarrass you,” she said, stepping out from the house. She came down the porch steps toward us. “I’m just pleased to finally meet you.”

“It’s a pleasure, ma’am,” I said, bowing slightly.

She looked at me closely.

“He’s handsome, Lily. And seems to have a good heart. You made a good choice.”

“Mother!” Impossibly, Lillian’s face turned even redder.

“Step into the house for a minute, will you, Lily?” she asked. “I’m sure your mate would love to try the apple pie we made.”

“But I…” Lily said, glancing at me.

“It’s alright,” I said, sensing that her mother wanted to talk to me privately. I was loathe to allow Lillian out of my sight, but… with the intense way her mother was looking at me, I knew I couldn’t avoid whatever she wanted to say. “I’d love to try some of the pie.”

“Alright,” Lily said. She squeezed my hand before letting it go. I stole a quick kiss before letting her out of my sight.

The minute she went into the house, her mother’s face fell.

“You have to get her out of here.”

“I’m trying,” I said. “There isn’t a lot of information on these necklaces. Do you know a way?”

“No,” she said. A worry line formed between her brows. “This place was to imprison one of the original werewolves, a being of nearly infinite power. Lily has great strength, but she is not who was meant to be here. She cannot stay here/forever.”

“I understand,” I started to say.

“You don’t,” her mother countered. “The prison gains strength by drawing on the power of the prisoner. For an original werewolf, with infinite power, they would barely notice the drain. But for someone like Lily… She has not noticed yet, but she will. She’s already diminishing.”

“If it drains enough, will the boundaries come down?” I asked. “Then she could be free.”

“Perhaps,” her mother said. “Or, she will be too weak and the prison itself will kill her. Is that a gamble you are willing to take?”
